egts

hey guy i have a 1996 12v and i have a 5in mbrp pipe running only 28psi of boost stage 2 afe intake after market injectors (big) and my afc starwheel wide open and when im cruising my pyromter can hit 1000 degrees just cruisin at 2 psi of boot on freeway any way i can lower the egts i was thinking about aftermarket exaust manifold what you guys think:argh:

RanchhandTCR 04-22-2013 11:00 PM

Adjust timing, and maybe back down the start wheel. also where is your pryo at is it 3/4 to one side right smack dab in the middle or behind the turbo.

Unburnt fuel eguals more heat, tune it better and have it burn all the fuel so it will run cooler. How big of injectors do you have? also because if you dont have the proper timing, air, those injectors are just dumping fuel... Hope they are no more than 90 horse.

cummins Pride 04-22-2013 11:30 PM

the timing is stock from factory injector came with the truck i had them ebuild all we could find out about them was that they pop off at 360 and i think there bigger thsn 40hp forsure once i saw 40hp injectors pop at 310 or 290 i thik it was

94 12valve 04-23-2013 11:08 AM

360 is way too high of a pop pressure 260 is prob what there set at as for running cooler you need to tune your afc and not have it set as loose as it can.

cummins Pride 04-23-2013 11:14 AM

ok will do thank you guys and what would you think of a aftermarket exaust manifold on a stock turbo

94 12valve 04-23-2013 11:22 AM

not worth it

cummins Pride 04-23-2013 11:26 AM

alright thanks for the help:jump:

RanchhandTCR 04-23-2013 07:08 PM

I have one because I had my last one crack. Notice slightly faster boost but thats it..

cummins Pride 04-23-2013 11:06 PM

what about the egts what did they seem to be like

RanchhandTCR 04-24-2013 01:25 PM

Sat the same, what made a difference was straigh pipeing it they dropped 100 degrees at 65 mph

94 12valve 04-24-2013 03:19 PM

crossdrill the wastegate and they will drop more than that

RanchhandTCR 04-24-2013 07:35 PM

YA I wanted my turbo to last... lol but its your rig..

kapnhook 04-24-2013 07:41 PM

a bigger down pipe will help also.

crossdrilling helps the turbo last longer well worth the time to do it

Bigg Redd 04-24-2013 10:57 PM

For now, if I were you, Id back off on the starwheel. 1000 degrees is way too hot for 2 psi of boost.

cummins Pride 04-25-2013 06:56 PM

ihave the mbrp 4in down pipe on a 5in pipe all the way back

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i found i put my pyrometer befor the turbo so i read the temp before it goes into the turbo

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i have my pyrometer in before the turbo so before it goes threw the turbo so i hear its normal to have a higher temp read there.:humm:

Ya a pre turbo pyro will read hotter than a post pyro because it cools down when it goes thru the turbo

I will have to look into it.

94 12valve 04-25-2013 11:11 PM

its just drilling the wastegate hole to vent all 6 cyl in stock form it only vents the back 3 cyl when the gate opens

cummins Pride 04-26-2013 12:30 PM

the back 3 are the hottest runin tho arent they

94 12valve 04-26-2013 01:40 PM

coolent temp they are the hottest yes but egt temp should be close to the same

cummins Pride 04-28-2013 11:46 AM

ok
