LOWERING 4X4 12V
Hey all,
So I have done a lot of searching and still haven't found an answer. I have a 98 4x4 SCLB and I want to take the 4" blocks out of the rear and loose a couple leaf springs as well. Does anyone know if doing this will put too much strain on the drive shaft? Is it necessary to have the drive shaft shortened if I drop the rear end? Last question, I have heard you can cut a coil out of the front and drop the front a bit. Does lowering the front, say 2", also require shortening of the drive shaft? Thanks for everyone's help :tu: |
the big question is why do you want to lower a 4x4 truck? but yet cutting the front coils will drop the truck

if u pull leafs out of rear it will alow alot more axle wrap,i would try 1/2 ton coils in front.u will need to use pinion angle shims to corect driveshaft alignment.

yes you should be able to get the shims at any napa or similar auto parts store. half ton springs supporting that much engine seems a little sketchy. a cummins outweighs a 318 by a lot..

Cool ok. And these shims I'm assuming go between the axle and the block or the leaf spring where they sit on the axle? So it will change the pitch of the entire axle..:humm:

yes they will change the angle,if u are looking to lower it by a couple of inches just take out the 4 inch blocks and add 2 inch blocks, most blocks have angle built into them.the reason for using gas engine springs is just that, they will sag more due to the weight.
