Yeah, sounds like it could be a TPS issue. There are a couple of options as far as purchasing the sensor. Around $150 IIRC. You could try cleaning and adjust it, instructions are here about half way down the page:

Or, you could get a TPS delete kit, which I did. They make kits, or you can build one yourself with a linear taper potentiometer. Here's where I got mine from:

It was really easy to install. I drilled a hole in the trim around the instrument cluster, ran the wires through the firewall. The wires come with pins on the end, but not a connector, so you just insert the pins in the ecu side of the harness matching up the colors indicated in the instructions and just heat shrink it. I've been running it for about a year now and haven't had a single issue with it.
