Stuck High Idle Problem.

So the car has been driving great. Did a trip down to miami last weekend (what a horrible place)

Did a sharp U turn yesterday to pull into my house, and when I put the car in park, the idle immediately revs up to 1300-1500 rpm (i'm not sure, I dont have a Tach... Just by the sound of it I'm guessing)

I checked all the throttle linkage to make sure nothing was stuck, and it had a full return. It does.

I tried lowering it using the idle adjuster set screw... but that only seems to be able to have the idle high... or drop it low enough to not idle.

Could this be something with my govenor springs... something jammed stuck in one causing a high idle, or perhaps something in the AFC?

I dont believe its oil from the turbo or anything... though that is definiately in the back of my mind. I have not checked it yet.

Also... If I blip the throttle, it will rev up, then spin back down to an idle for about 1-2 seconds... then run off back to 1400 rpm or so...

what kind of motor is in your car, you need to fill out your signature so we know what you have.

oh... sorry. 1994 12 valve. Stock injectors. 200,000 miles.

I have washers in the governor springs... something is telling me they might have shifted around and gotten stuck in the outer idle springs.

That will do it. Take those shims out and either get a GSK or add a couple more clicks to your stockers. When I did my first set I didnt get the second piece of the 2 piece seats that are on the stockers and when I put the 4k's the idle was high and if you give it throttle it will hang. I would have to put a load on it for the idle to come back down.

now that I think of it... the shims may not be able to shift, as they still sit on that center shaft?

Yea but the shims themselves may not be sitting correctly on shaft if the seats are still in there. Its an easy trouble shoot just take them out and see what it does.

To bring up an older topic. I finally got around to tearing it apart (I was enjoying the weather and only rode my motorcycles for almost 2 months)

Opened up the Gov springs. The main stud was bent, binding the outter 3 springs into each other. I have no idea how that stud would contact something, making it bend... but it was definitely out of true.

Bent it back straight and car runs great. Finally making my custom lines to run for AC, and get that all hooked up so I can do my summer 20k mi with air conditioning. =D
