Power steering pump prices... wtf?

So, I'm due. I called Chrysler first because I like OEM parts when possible, and our fleet price is pretty decent there. She quoted me something like $550. Damn! So I called NAPA, who quoted me about $55. Say what?! I'm thinking they can't possibly be talking about the same thing, but there's only so much in there it could be. These prices sound like a crazy discrepancy to anyone else?

Sounds about right. When my starter went after I first got the truck, the dealer wanted over $900 for a reman. I managed to find one for $200ish and then threw some Larry B's contacts in there, good as new!

JBearSVT 03-06-2013 07:11 PM

Well, I'm used to OEM being like, 40% more than NAPA. Which is significant, but I usually go for it anyway. But... 1000%? That's just crazy.

ricet07 03-06-2013 07:57 PM

Umm yea that is crazy considering you can get a high flow borgeson for 185

JBearSVT 03-07-2013 06:21 AM

Never heard of it, where can I get one of those?

mytrucksmokesmorethanme 03-07-2013 06:19 PM

that sounds really weird, is there any way that was parts+labor cause I priced your pump at our parts dept at 211 , my cost retail about 300-ish

not all the time but more often than not aftermarket parts are just plain junk, remember your parts from napa etc are purchased from the lowest bidder
I buy only mopar parts-filters just about everything

JBearSVT 03-07-2013 07:35 PM

It was definitely not parts + labor. It wasn't exactly $550 either, but it was right in that ballpark. My price on Chrysler parts is 25% under retail. Regardless, that was my point... I'm thinking the person who gave me the price has to have been looking at the wrong thing. I just can't imagine what it might have been.

JBear borgeson builds awesome steering components. Their steering boxes and replacment shafts are pretty stout and I have never heard anything bad about them. Im not sure if any of the sponsors supply them but you could check. The price i gave you though was through genos garage and they have awesome customer service.

and after looking on the home page I guess genos is a site sponsor so I didnt step on anyones toes....i hope.

Thank you very much, I'll look into it. I prefer OEM parts... unless the aftermarket part is an upgrade :tu:

a lot of dodge dealers do this garbage, the one I near me is solid 300 percent. I can always buy from cummins a 1/3 cheaper.
