Best Power Combo NV4500
I am new to this site but so far it has been very informative. I own a 94 Dodge 2500 Cummins 2wd with the NV4500 5 speed. I have read alot of negative feedback on the NV4500 as far as power handling capabilities. My goal is to build a relatively fast streetable truck and keep it a 5 speed. So far the pump has been modded, 4000 GSK, wastegate plugged, and custom fuel plate (not sure of specs). It pulls hard, and the EGT,s dont go above 900 even with 37 pounds of boost. My question is...can anybody recomend a reliable street setup that wont break the NV4500 but still make 400 ish horsepower? What injectors, DV's, and turbo? I am going to do head studs, southbend clutch, and possibly fire ring if needed. As a side note, I have a tv7512 garrett turbo that i considered using in a compound build, any buddy know if its too big? 76mm inducer, 54 trim, .75a/r and the exhaust is a .96 a/r. I believe a 96mm wheel. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

that transmission will handle 400hp ALL day long. a clutch upgrade will be needed. the nv4500 is way tougher than an old getrag in a first gen and i was pushin about 500 out of my first gen at the rear tires.

what do you gain from plugging the waste gate? ive been debating on doing it to my 98 5 speed!
|
just build more boost

my 2 cents, don't plug the waste gate, buy a boost elbow :c:

Anything past 35 PSI is just extra heat.

Wheres your egt probe located? Sounds like 1200 degrees to me, 900 is low.

I agree with the boost elbow. Set it at 35psi and forget it.
You be surprised how much power you get with just an exhaust, boost elbow, breather ,4k gsk. And a good afc tune. After those upgrades start saving for a clutch.but first start off with a set of gauges. |
if you intend on going twins , You will have to have studs or your gonna pop the HG right unde ryour thermostat housing .... I will take some pics so u can see that i mean ... my 95 has a leaking HG... timed it up and turned it up , now I know that between the cylinder pressure and the coolant pressure , if will lift the head ... also wanna modify the thermostat, drill a few small hole ( like 4-5) and do a colant bypass from the thermostat housing to the rear of the head... this too will reduce the pressure behing the Thermostat and ensure your HG will live ... loking right now for some one or a company that clips these pumps for reduced pressure but with good flow .. or go electric.
