47rh fluid change made shifting soft

Hi all, I have a 94 2500 truck with a 47rh tranny that i bought just recently. I did a tranny fluid/filter change using atf4+ and lucas additive, it seems to be softer in the shifts and the TC seems softer too. before doing the fluid/filter change I drove it 2800 miles ...1800 with a small 6k trailer with no problems except no TC, so I added TC switch to fix that. When I pulled the pan the fluid was good color, no smell, and a dozen or so tiny brass bits in the pan, the magnet looked like a fuzzy dounut. the kid I bought the truck from probobly did somthing to firm up the shifts and grab to sell the truck (he claimed to work at a tranny shop) I cant find him now, I wish he would tell me what he was running for fluid and I would just reuse his recipe. My question is : how do I get it back to being solid feeling...i.e. change the fluid to somthing else like john deere, or some good aditives. I know atf4+ has some modifiers that might make it not so grippy. does the fluid in the TC drain out when changing fluid? I would do a rebuild but im poor for now...any Ideas?
