I just had .008" planed off it, and plan to put studs in... Hopefully businesses wake up around here soon and get back to me on the availability of the cummins gasket. I will use the felpro if I have to and it's good to hear one review of them that's not negative

every cummins dealer should carry a .030" Marine gasket...

That's what i used and i only had my head pressure tested... it was straight as an arrow 8)

Head gasket (cummins) will be here tomorrow, settling for a Felpro top end kit for the rest of the gaskets... At least if those fail i don't need to take the head off

that is FALSE!

I have one of each at home and they look like brothers, but come from different mothers.... When I get home this weekend I will show the difference in the 2.

Genuine Cummins gets my vote.

Head gasket Cummins. I'll use fel pro valve cover gaskets though. The valve cover gaskets i got in a kit from Cummins are junk. I used the Cummins valve cover gaskets on mine and fel pro valve cover gaskets on other peoples trucks. No complaints yet.

I have a set of the Cummins valve cover gaskets and in my climate controlled home, without installing them on a vehicle, the gaskets started cracking, so I now have a set of Felpro VC gaskets....

I used felpro vc gaskets when id did my last valve adjutment about 3 months ago and all 6 are failing but I just got 6 cummins vc gaskets from the dealer and they say made in usa on the box and all six gaskets say made in india so Im not to happy with the cummins vc gaskets at the moment either maybe when I take them back they will make it right

On the kit I got from Felpro, all gaskets are made in the US except for a couple O rings that were made in india... I would like to find better ones, but all the auto parts stores only carry garbage nowadays

You mean FAIL PRO they can't even make a decent valve cover gasket, I don't think I'd trust a head gasket

Also stripping teeth on 5th gear is unlikely but if you lost 5th gear it would probly be the notorious 5th gear ring nut backing out

Well, got the back of the tranny off.. here's what I found
Attachment 36086

I'm still fighting to get the driven gear off, doesn't seem like my splines are worn at all, but I know my countershaft is pretty much done for, the 5th idler bearing race is pitted, and I think my mainshaft rear bearing might be on it's way out, which would explain why I broke the 5th gear if the teeth werent riding properly... I'm going to toss it together and I should make it home at least... any tips on getting the 5th gear driven gear off without a gear puller,... I have a slide hammer I might try hooking a chain to and maybe that'll help a bit... so far prying on it hasn't helped, I have a propane torch heating it as we speak

You cant beat factory headgaskets. You may have to pay a bit more, but its well worth it. A HG job is a PITA to begin with, let alone repeating the process from using an inferior gasket. Personally I dont have much confidence in Felpro HG especially in high horsepower applications, but their soft gaskets do kick ass.
