94 cummins oil leaking out the dip stick tube
 

I got my 94 cummins daily driver with 174.000 miles with built tranny 100 fuel plate colair intake and 4 inch straight pipe also have lock up switch. But anyways it's been leaking a litte oil and I couldn't really figure out from where until the other day opened the hood and there was oil all over the injection pump. So I took the dipstick out and started it up. Nothing came out until I brought the Rpms up. It leaked enought to run off my hand. Has anyone had this problem and why is it blowing up the dipstick tube? It's making a huge mess. And how do I fix it? Is the motor junk? Please help!!!! :scare2:

Sounds like lots of crankcase pressure. possible cause is excessive blowby. Also check your oil level to make sure youre not "making oil". That is, malfunctioning injector(s) shooting too much fuel, washing passed the rings and diluting the oil, thus raising the level. And make sure your crankcase vent tube isnt kinked or plugged. Just tossing out a few.....:humm:

Do you do alot of idleing? if so you may have bad ring causing excessive blow by, but check what Bigg Redd said to..

Your supposed to have a seal on the dipstick so it can't leak. mine does the exact same thing couldn't figure it out till one day I did n found the dipstick had no seal on it. Fixed that n my oil leak stopped. I had slight steam coming out of the crank case on a cold morning n that was it so I know it's not plugged and the breather tube was dry so it's not blowby on mine atleast.

The oil level is always a little low. And I tryed a new seal on did stick it just leaks by it. My dip stick Handel is broke on both my cummins. The breather tube is not clogged I took it off and drover around with no tube a little steam comes out but when it's war nothing comes out not even a drop of oil. Should I swap out the motor I have a 96 12 valve will that bolt to my 94 tranny? Also everyone says put a filer in the valve cover should I try that or am I wasting time with this motor?

Im gonna guess that you have quite a bit of blowby smoke comming out of the crankcase vent tube? If thats the case, well then an engine swap is probably in the works in the near future. :w2:

And will perform better too. I'd get a compression test first though. If it had blowby you should have oil coming out crank case breather too.

My buddy's is a marine mechanic and he has one he said its a bitch to do but I'm gonna try it this weekend and see what it has absolutely nothing comes out the crank case tube I get a little warm air that's all and no oil drips out of the crank just the dip stick

Yea I don't get it I took the tube of and there's no oil around the vent. And my oil level is actuly 2 quarts low so it's not makeing oil it's just makeing a huge mess on my drive way and the truck

You could try putting a new oring on the dipstick yet maybe there's a rip in the old rubber piece in there.

i put a new gasket on dip stick and it still leaks. but when i take the fill cap off steam comes out and no oil blows out of the dipstick when thats off. i put my hand over the oil fill and i cant feel any kind of pressure pushing on my hand or blowing it off. when the cap is off it sounds like metal hitting metal in there i don't know what it is. so i put a universal filter from auto zone on it and it dosn't seem to leak. so can i put performance mods on this motor or will i b wasting my time?

genosgarage.com sells a dipstick for your engine, because i bought one from them for 30 dollars i think it was. Just type "dipstick" in the search engine on their website and they will have it. One thing that i did until i got a new one, get a couple zipties and a rubber band to hold that thing firmly down on there.

I got a new dip stick I ring and it is still leaking. I put a breather off a 350 over the oil fill. But what about mod to this motor I have another one but I think sealing them wills a pain in the butt. But what are anyone's thoughts on swapping it out? Or just putting performance parts on the motor in the truck?? Help!! :scare2:

its probably leaking out the dipstick because the baffle in the tappet cover is clogged. You said when it is cold a little steam comes out of the down draft hose and when its warm nothing... I would confirm that this is true and then replace or clean your tappet cover baffle. I have an extra lol

I had an engine that over heated and had a slap to it.swaped it and now my engine does the same blows the dip stick tube off it is not blow by. don't be concerned blow by tube under on the starter side will blow out before the dip stick tube just find a rubber O ring that will work thats what i did :c:
