Should i swap to manual, or rebuild the automatic?

Alright guys here is the deal, I bought a 96 dodge 3500 about 3 weeks ago, about a week ago the 47re transmission went out! I had plans on just having it rebuilt at a local shop for about $1800 until i talked to a buddy who offered me one of his trucks to use as a donor truck and swap mine to a manual. The truck has 170,000 miles and drives fine, clutch seems to be fine and synchronizers also seem fine. He told me i could have everything from that truck to swap mine to a manual for $1900. That's everything, transmission, clutch, clutch pedals, master cylinder, bell house, transfer case, shorter from drive shaft, interior boot, the whole nine yards. Whatever i needed just pull it out of that truck and put it in mine.

I shouldn't have troubles doing the swap, ive got some experience swapping vehicles from automatic to manual. I just want your opinion, is it a good deal? He wants my junked automatic also and my transfer case in return. I imagine he will use it for something or sale it and make a little extra money. Id like to hear some opinions. Im really scared to go back stock with an automatic rebuild and that's what the shop is gonna do. Would it be worth my time and money to just do this swap for $1900? Im on a tight budget as i just bought this truck and had no plans on the trans going out this soon.

Thanks guys!

I personaly would swap to the std.. if you have everything needed id go for it.. i havent had a problem with my auto yet and i give my truck a good beatin! tow alot and always on the skinny pedal! but if you do happen to get the auto rebulit dont do it stock at least get your self a good t/c and v/b or shift kit make it so it will put up with some mods and last!:c:
