Using window tint to smoke tail lights?

I have heard that some people using a $20 window tint kit from walmart. Has anyone ever done this before? My brother wants to do this to his 95 Dodge tail lights.

It can be done, but needs finessing and patience. The tint isnt very forgiving. Thats my experience anyway, as I did exactly that to my 93 corvette. Oh and a blow dryer certainly helps......... and extra hands and patience. OH did I mention patience? May be easier on a truck. Never tried that. There's also spray tint especially for light lenses. That would definately be easier than window film. Not so much cussing.:c: VHT makes it and it runs about $14 bucks per can.

Sweet! Thanks man!! To make it stick to the inside of the lens, does the tint spray need a rough surface or a smooth surface? Anyone else got input or ideas?

I believe a good cleaning with rubbing alcohol will suffice, but painting the inside??:humm:

Wont the tint come off if its on the outside?

At carshows Ive seen spray tinted lenses and they look very nice, but Ive never inquired on the durability sorry.

BTW, what part of west Texas are you from?

It may come off in time, with repeated high pressure washes. You can seal it with clear coat to make it last longer. No not scuff or scratch you lenses. The VHT Night Shade really shows scratches once applied. I've used it, and a buddy with an automotive shop uses it frequently.
