just got my first 12 valve & need some tips

Ok guys i just got a 1996 ram 2500 on a steal of a deal :jump: guy said it has a blown head gasket and is mixing oil into the coolant. This is the first diesel i have owned personally but im always wrenching on my fathers 6.0 :argh: Theres no doubt in my mind that can do it. Hopefully you guys can give my some tips to help me along the way. My biggest question is can i pull the head with the engine in the truck

Yea you can pull the head without pullin the motor, it also could be the oil cooler, and make sure the KDP is taken care of. :c:

Yep you can pull the head pretty easy with it in the truck but like tire man said it can also be the oil cooler...

Whats the best way to test it to be sure excatily what it is

RanchhandTCR 08-28-2012 07:37 PM

get a coolant pressure tester and pump it up to 15 PSi and see if it bleeds off..

tiremann9669 08-28-2012 07:53 PM

But if it's the cooler or the HG it's gonna bleed off right ? :humm:

DOP!!!!!:argh: yea your right.... hmmmmm....

Im gonna lean torwards a Headgasket because I realy never hear of a failing oil cooler gasket.. But they can fail too. Take a look at you oil cooler for anything obvious its where the oil filter is mounted to... Other than that, guess you gonna have to take one or the other off. Have you checked you oil for coolant also???

Yea ill check as soon as i get it towed to my house, hopefully it doesnt becuse im going to need to put new bearings in it if it does right?
