You are not going to be anywhere close to 400 RWHP with a hypertech. You may feel some seat of pants HP gains but nothing major. Your tranny will be fine with the hypertech, just be careful for highway speed downshifts from 5-4-5 it could cause a limp, but most likely will not.

If you want better gains, and more smoke look for a predator. They are better then hypertech and give you a little more smoke. Should be about the same price.

Well the way i figured it, is the truck, stock runs 310 HP at 520 TQ. I have a Kodiak MP which i figured runs me maybe an extra 10 HP and 20 TQ (highside) so if i get 87 HP and 173 TQ from the tuner, it should put me at 407 HP and 713 TQ, but i know what you are saying at the tire i'd be looking more like 350 HP and 660 TQ which would still be very nice.

Hypertech claims (on a stock LLY, so no after market MP) at its highest RWHP/TQ, 347 HP and 644 TQ so my numbers arent (IMO) to much of a stretch

As for the limp mode, that cocerns me. how do i make it go away if it happens? is it just as simple as pulling over shutting down and then starting back up or am i going to have to do something else.

Just a few to clarify some of the comments in this thread relating to our products.

1. All Hypertech TQ & HP readings are done at the rear wheel and not at the crankshaft which is what you see on the dealer window sticker.
2. The factory stock at the rear wheel is 274 Hp @ 3000 RPM and 480 TQ @ 3000 RPM
3. The Stage 3 Hypertech Tune Max is 347 HP @ 3000 RPM and 644 TQ @ 2200 RPM
4. All levels of Hypertech tuning are designed to be safe for towing up to the rated capacity as rated by the manufacturer.
5. The 6.6L uses the Allison Transmission which has it's own on board computer the "re-learns" when a tuning product is used (We do not program the Allison)
6. Our tuning products are designed to burn the fuel as efficiently as possible and increase HP & TQ while maintaining a street legal status and no excessive EGT problems.
By doing so we try and burn the fuels supplied and not create a lot of smoke.

Thanks,

Right on! that is pretty much what i said above. the only thing that i do find interesting is the allsion part. if you tune the eng, wouldnt make since to tune the trans too? is there a tune for the allison? but buy not alot of smoke, i hope u mean more than stock, but if not its all good

cbsmoraine 03-12-2011 06:36 PM

Bought the programer. Level 3 is loaded. im very happy with it. It smokes a little from idel to 1500RPM. but it a fun tune. you can tell the trans is going to have to get use to it. but 0 to70 is very quick to achieve. over all im impressed, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tuner those folks looking to buy a stock friendly tune. i think it was a great $100 buy.:rocking:

BriteWhiteRam 03-13-2011 09:35 PM

Yep it should be alright for $100, the Allison will adjust, but it takes a while unless you do a "quick re-learn" on the TAPS, Im not sure how to do it, I know i can do it with EFI live, but the hypertech doens't have that capability, You re-set them and then do several runs to 60, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full throttle to get it to quick learn:rocking:

You will just have to let the truck adjust to the new power, you should be alright with it the way it is :c:

Yeah in the begining ( last friday is when i put in tune on) the truck shifted kind of rough. but now it burns thru the gears with out much effort. my buddy even made the comment today that the truck shifts like a sportbike (hes a sportbike nut). but over all i am very impressed with performace of the tune. for it being a low end tuner. i no for bigger gains i am going to have to go with a better tuner. but for now (stock trans and what not) this tuner is awesome. I deffinately recommend it to anyone wanting to run stock perminently, or for those guys like me who are budget builders. :jump:

cbsmoraine 06-21-2011 08:27 PM

UPDATE.......Well i'vbe been using the tune for about 3 months now, the truck has never run better. its alot quicker. keeps up with my buddies 2011 camero ss with the LS3. my wife has pretty much burnt the tires clean off the truck, which is the only down side. you can feel a fairly conciderible difference in the way it was to the way it is now. smokes just enough to have fun. fule economy (when im driving) has gotten much better, vs when my wife drives, you dont really see the fuel economy savings.

I just picked one up for 25$ it took it a while to give me any power but I ran it about 30 miles down the interstate and my truck came alive I was impressed for a 25 $ old school hypertech. on my truck there is no smoke out put at all which isn't a bad thing

Damn didn't know this thread was two years old

when i first got my 05 durmax, the guy i bought it from said it had a "econtune" from banks. so i got on it a little just to see how she would do. engine lite came on. felt like all it wanted to do was just stay alive. AArrrg. took it to OReillys and their code thingy said it was fuel rail issues. Ok... eventually, I got a hypertech to increase mpg. Anyways, programmed it to stock settings and again just stayed alive. :dang: reprogrammed it to stage two. Same thing. so obvisously its a fuel rail issue. SO how does one fix this? :argh:
p.s. whoever said 20 hwy and 16.5 city doesnt have this truck. I baby the dam thing and still no difference. What am I doing wrong? Somebody help me. The diesal is sucking my wallet dry...
