anyone built there own ally 1000??
im looking to save the high labor cost and rebuild my tranny with suncoast parts when the time comes i and my dad both have good mechanical knowledge . just wondering if anyone here attempted it

Do a lot of searching and check out DIY threads from various sites. It's not that hard. Very heavy, but not hard.
|
oyy, that trans is a heavy son of a gun
|
I'm learing to build auto trannys on the side. What i'm running in to is you need special tools to take some of the pieces apart.
This can get costly. |
You can build all those 'special' tools for less than $50
|
Ive considered this also, already had to do my head gaskets, figured the trans was next...
|
all you need to build the allison trans once you get it out of the truck is a 15mm socket with a wobble head, 2 flat head screw drivers, and some 90* picks. did it and gonna keep doin it. takes about 4-5 hours to do and thats takin your time so you do it right.
also is it a 5 or 6spd? the 6spds i find easier than anything |
Allison are not very hard. Get a allison master rebuild book for 19 bucks of ebay and a case of beer and a weekend with like a suncoast stage 4 and a ppe stage 5 rebuild kit and you will be good to go.
|
how much are the rebuilt kits?
