water pump replacement
Hey everyone. I'm looking for some information/tips/tricks on repalcing the water pump. I saw a thread on here a while back about replacing one, but of course when you need it, you can never find it! In particular I'm looking for feedback on pulling the balancer - do I need a puller? how hard is it to get the bolt loose? etc. Any advice/input will be greatly appreciated!

you dont need a puller for the balencer, you can slide it off.
the bolt on there is a 36mm 12pt socket and need a cheater on there. i pretty much covered al the bad stuff on there. you can make the job easier by pulling the fan pulley bracket, there's 5 or 6 14mm bolts holding it on and a deep socket is needed to do that and its a little hard to pull off but its just glued to the block with foam for some reason. https://www.dieselbombers.com/durama...ement-diy.html |
How many miles did you guys have on yours before they needed replaced? Did they start leaking on you or what? Were is the weap hole at on these? Mine is leaking but not sure if it is the pump or a hose.

you can see the weep hole if you look at the pump from the bottom ur gonna have to remove the skid plate to see it.
mine went at 130k |
Yeah I need to pull my skid plate. I can see it running down the lower hose from the top. She has 250K on her so if I replace it and the next one makes it that far I'll be happy.

Mine has 140k on it and I am replacing mine this weekend. Coolant was running pretty good out of the weep hole.

My Water Pump Pulley broke down before 140k, had to settle for some surplus parts from nowhere temporarily - got it fixed though and working perfectly.
