3rd Gen Tech: Filter Housing Cap
 

While at a recent Dyno run in Phoenix, Az, I had the opportunity to meet cbrahs (Chris) from HDR Diesel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. HDR Diesel
He had on hand a billet Aluminum Fuel Filter Housing Cap, which he gave to me to put on my truck. THANKS, Chris!

The cap replaces the plastic one that came on the truck. It has a port for sampling fuel pressure, and comes with the plug in case you don't intend to use the port. This piece is handy for someone who intends to keep their stock fuel filter setup, but still wants to run more pressure to their CP3.

The install is pretty easy. If it has been a while since you have replaced your filter, you might want to pick a filter up and do it all at the same time. I’d recommend obtaining the Baldwin PF7977. I had recently replaced my filter, so I opted to just reinstall the one I was using. I also already had a setup for monitoring fuel pressure, so I installed the plug that came with the cap.

Place a drain pan under the truck to catch the fuel from the Fuel housing drain hose

Open the drain valve at the filter housing. Close the drain valve when the fuel is done draining out of the housing

Loosen the stock cap on the filter housing.

When you remove the stock cap, the filter will come with it.

I reinstalled my filter at this time. If you bought a new filter, put the new one in the filter housing.

The Baldwin PF7977 comes with a new O-ring, place that on the new Billet Cap. Again, mine was new and in good shape, so I reused it.

Place the cap on the housing, and after aligning the threads, hand tighten it, then snug it down with a wrench.

Re pressurize your fuel system by turning your key on, when your pump stops, turn the key off and repeat until the fuel system is at full pressure. Check for leaks, if there is none, start the truck, and recheck for leaks. That is it! Just that simple!

Wow! You make my list longer with each one of these.
Now I can put one of these and a FP gauge on the top of the list and hope that brings the mileage back up.:c:
