3rd Gen Tech: Icebox Intake
If you haven't considered this intake, PLEASE DO!!
I heard a little about it on the boards, and thought why not give it a try. I ordered mine with the torque tube, and an Amsoil Ea nano Filter. The torque tube is shipped separately, BTW. I installed it in my truck, only took about an Hour to do... Even with household interruptions... I couldn't believe how easy the Icebox installed! The quality of fabrication was fantastic, and the kit contents were complete! Here are some pics of the install. After unpacking the Icebox, pardon the mess on the workbench... http://i18.tinypic.com/82xx8c8.jpg Pic of the torque tube and Icebox. http://i14.tinypic.com/8a1eqa1.jpg The intake with the sensor installed. http://i5.tinypic.com/817p99t.jpg Another shot of the installed sensor. http://i2.tinypic.com/6llj02h.jpg You need to remove the top cover next. http://i17.tinypic.com/6ujc2za.jpg Disconnect the radiator overflow hose. Also disconnect the Negative lead of the battery http://i5.tinypic.com/7x2989h.jpg Remove the Stock Torque tube if you purchased an aftermarket unit. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i.../2lx8bhi-1.jpg You'll need to remove the Filter, to allow access to mount the Icebox to your truck. http://i1.tinypic.com/7y7ff5h.jpg The Icebox mounts to one of the fan shroud/radiator bolts. Remove this bolt, and compare it to the threads of the 2 included bolts. The CORRECT bolt is the one without the extra washer and self locking nut! http://i2.tinypic.com/854l1dv.jpg Just start bolt into threads of Radiator/fan shroud location. http://i5.tinypic.com/6tun5zo.jpg Continued in the next post... |

Then align hole in back of Icebox to factory rubber mounted location, Place bolt through Icebox and factory grommet.. (This may require threading bolt through rubber grommet, as tolerances are tight.) Place washer and self locking nut on bottom and tighten until snug.
http://i9.tinypic.com/8g8x3br.jpg If you purchased a Torque tube with your Icebox, it's time to install it. NOTE: the long end goes to the Icebox, and the shorter end goes to the turbo. (In this pic, the long end is to the Left, and the short end is to the Right...) http://i11.tinypic.com/6t0stgw.jpg Pic of the tube installed... This is going to sound GREAT!! Note that clearance is tight to battery positive, and that Intake sensor is wrapped around outside of tube to keep it away from motor heat. http://i2.tinypic.com/8aycq2w.jpg Reinstall the Air filter, I chose the Amsoil Ea nano filter option... If you use this filter, you'll have to "Persuade" it into position... http://i3.tinypic.com/82nawbt.jpg Reconnect the Radiator overflow. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...rs/7x2989h.jpg Reinstall the top of the Icebox. http://i2.tinypic.com/8fdqrtc.jpg You are DONE! Don't forget to hook up the Negative battery lead, then fire it up and take it for a spin!! http://i2.tinypic.com/6p81n4j.jpg |

You have a PM! |
I got mine installed the other day too. Got the cool blue hose and the S&B filter. LOVE IT!!!
On a liter note. those of you who have a bodylift on your truck, the standard icebox will not work. I am going to head up to Icebox shop and we are going to design a box for those of us who have bodylifts. Don't get me wrong, the box is in there but some trimmin had to be done. I talked to Mark and we are going to get one designed. Will keep ya'lll informed. |
Hey Chris, Can you get the S&B filter that fits the 3rd gen Icebox?
Post your answer here, but PM me a price, Ok? |
Switched my filter out to an S&B... Thanks Chris!! :c:
|
Do you get any codes thrown that need to be cleared by the dealership with this application? My last truck did so...so much so that I had to remove the cold air intake and go back to stock.
|
Nope. Not on my 2007 5.9L
In fact, first I've ever heard of a Cold Air intake throwing a code.. (unless you forget to plug in the air sensor like I did, LOL!) I notice you have a 2008 6.7L. Was your other truck a 6.7L also? Give Chris a call (cbrahs here on this board) from HDR Diesel when you are ready to buy. He'll take care of you and answer your questions. |
Hey 2004fsxt, what intake did you have on your truck?
|
It was a Volant cold air induction system in the new ford. The service engine light came on all of the time and Ford would not fix it...they kept pointing at my cold air induction system...I eventually gave up and went back to stock. I just don't want to have to go through that again with another cold air induction system. I currently have the 6.7 and would like to add the cold air induction to it, but want to make sure no one else had any problems before I spend the cash.
I had a momentary lapse in judgement when I left dodge to get a ford. I'm back now however! If the icebox doesn't have any history of throwing codes in a 6.7 diesel, then I will probably purchase one. What's the best price I can get? |
To my knowledge we have had NO problems!! Don't forget to enter in the your name in the Icebox giveaway this month.
|
thanks again...I entered my name today. When will you draw the name?
|
What exactly will this do for my truck? Something I can feel, measure?
Thanks |
some people have said they feel a difference in the icebox. a basicly stock truck u probaly notice a lil, but a higher hp truck you wont imo. what it does is let the motor breath better over the stock intake.
