Thinking about pulling this year some
Hey guys, im thinkin about doin a lil truck pullin this year just to see how i like it. I will only pull in maybe a max of 6-8 events, and not sure if all are or are not SFI approved events.
Anyway, im TOTALLY new to this, and know NOTHING about how to set the truck up for it. So what im looking for from you guys, is to tell me what i need to do to get a legal and safe pulling truck. Heres rules from one event last year i will be attending this year. If possible i might try and find the rules of another few local pulls and see what i can muster up.

yeah i know all that, im basically looking more for, what i need to do to the truck, as far as pulling hitch etc etc, what do i need for one, how do i make one, how do i set it up, how to do susp. stops, weight bracket etc. Thats stuff i know nothing about. Also maybe explain somewhat how to go about pulling with the truck, gear to use, how much to slip clutch, 4L or 4H and which gear to combine it with, that kinda stuff.
i already know what the motor needs done and theres a SBC DD going in this spring.

low-range 3rd gear is what I pulled in, and that was just right, started to bog down a little at the end then spun out. You want to slip the clutch as little as possible, I wound the engine to about 2k rpms and felt the chain tighten and just dumped the clutch, didn't work so good, killed it. So I wound a little higher and rode the clutch just a bit watched the tach as I was letting out trying not to let the rpm's drop much, probably only slipped it for about 5-10ft. As for a hitch I just put a clevis in the reese, and that worked fine for me. Remember chances of you winning are probably close to none, so there is no reason to spend a bunch of money on fancy stuff you don't need, but a set of traction bars would be nice. Good luck

I will warn you on this though, it is very addicting! and has the potential to become very expensive if you want to win. Thats why I am getting into antique tractor pulling, I am going to be pulling the pure farm class, so I don't have to do any mods to the tractor, and I am just doing it because it is fun, I don't expect to win or even place, but that would always be a plus. But I would like to pull my truck once a year or so just to see how it is progressing. Good luck it is a blast!
