Only problem is channel 1 is lower than 40 so I figured I'd trim the antenna but nothing really helps my SWR. Anyone have any ideas? I have used this Cb in many Jeeps (never sunk cb) and it worked alot better. Should I try a better antenna? I heard Wilson?? was good. -

Sounds like it might be jumping frequencies. I don't think that has much to do with your antenna. I had a Galaxy 959 that was doin that and ended up having to get a new one. If there's a good CB shop close to you they might be able to fix it. -

Do you think I need a new CB AF1Cummins?
That kinda sucks. the other day at my local fuel station I was talkin to a buddy in a jeep right next to me and as soon as he pulled out I lost him. After that my CB interfered with what seemed to be my speakers but didnt effect the music so I'm kinda thinkin its the CB speaker. I tried using it tonight and it seemed to be ok but I coulnt get a hold on anyone to talk to. -

24v'd fury, it very well may be jumpin frequency, but I'm no expert so don't hold me to it, but that's what it sound to me like it's doin. As far as it comin in on your radio speakers......I don't know how much power you're swingin, but I've got a 225 amp linear and when I key up from time to time I'll hear myself come across on my truck's stereo. I have no idea what causes it sometimes and not all the time. Hopefully someone in here who knows more will be able to tell us. -

Cobra 2000 (made as a base station) I installed variable echo talkback converted from 10 meter radio to talk on cb freq w/ 18ft antron a99 base antenna. when the skip comes in good can talk pretty good easily to calif from co or from co out to the east coast no prob prolly the furthest was upper NY. -

its called a linear amp... their highly illegal but my stepdad HAD a 1000 watt linear amp and he was at a rodeo and when he keyed it up it took over the announcer and you could hear him talk... and he had buddies in dallas tx and we are in hico, tx and he could talk to his friends there.... which is about 120miles or so from here...the reason there illegal is because when u drive by a house and key it up... it will turn on microwaves and turn off tv's... stuff like that -

Its a combo of things not you dont necicarilly need an amp and the conditions with the atmosphere need to be just right to go far. basically to keep it short the radio waves are sent out from the antenna in a radial fashion and bounce from the atmosphere back to earth then back up and so forth thats how you get skip. If the atmosphere isnt just so dosent happen. I was talking that far ( see my prev post a couple up) this spring had good conditions for shootin skip almost every night for about 2-3 months almost from east to west and north to south cool stuff right there. And the important thing about radios is not just having a "BIG" radio but the antenna if you want to get out spend the money and buy a good antenna and they also work better if you can centrally mount it in the center of the vehicle. The vehicle acts as a ground plane and helps radiate the radio wave out more front to back and side to side nothing to block it. Just some thoughts on CB'in -

I went economical haha, Im using a Cobra 29LTD Nightwatch with SoundTracker. Not tweaked for more wattage. I did get a multi-colored L.E.D. light put in and it cycles like 7 different colors....ya even pink..haha. got a good coax cable thats to long and the CB shoots through a single International brand fiberglass whip. I like that the Cb has a SWR meter built in ( dont know how accurate but still coool ) . I had a real SWR meter but sold it..I can get it to 1.2-1.5 and it reaches about 6 miles. give or take a couple. i guess it all depends on the cloud cover and weather. nothing fancy but gets the job done. I used to be into CB radios but nobody around here have the stuff to work on them and really use them. so its just a handy tool when on the road i guess. -
