I remeber watching that on tv, and near as I could tell those tires didn't come apart because they were old, they were wore out. As I recall, I don't remember seeing a single tire that they showed that had failed that didn't look like a racing slick, and I can remember a few had cords showing in spots that hadn't failed yet. In my opinion, people need to pay more attention to there tires, and when they were out, GET NEW TIRES!!!! and check the air pressure on occasion, and what the hell why not rotate they sometimes! Just my opinion

dang thats crazy! i never would have thought about that but i've also never heard of the tread just ripping off the tire. i blew two brand new tires on different cars but that was because of these crappy roads down here. took squares out of both of the inner sidewalls just from running off the road not even running off pavement just onto the shoulder of the road. two two by two chunks out of each of them. both the tires were about 180 a piece gosh i was mad and one you had to order to even get them nobody had it in stock
