Oshkosh 7-Ton 6X6 MTVR - Military Power

The Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement MTVRThe MTVR is the U.S. Navy's new workhorse, taking over for the old M54 and M939 5-ton 6x6 cargo trucks that have served since the 1940s-for some their retirement was past due. The maker of the MTVR is the Oshkosh Corporation, which is located in Wisconsin and has a reputation for building tough heavy-duty vehicles. Strength comes from the Caterpillar C-12 diesel engine, which creates 425 hp. The MTVR uses a brand-new design with independent front suspension (IFS), an automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and traction control. The all-aluminum cab can be folded down to get into tight spaces, and battened down to protect against rollovers. The MTVR comes in many different variations and is said to be easier to drive than the M939.

SWEET. I love those military trucks.

I was poking around Western Star's facility when they were still in Canada back in '98 and they had a truck that looked just like that. I asked the guy on a tour the following year about it and he denied that Western Star ever built such a truck. Maybe they were just testing an Oshkosh... -
