Did you ever tried Diesel and a rag?

We did it in the military -before it was prohibited by law for environment safety:

just let it soak in - start to clean the next day.
Just make sure to cover alternator and ECM, if you should use the pressure washer. It will save you some high dollars...

Spray everything down with degreaser... drive and get the motor warm... Park it, let it cool a little, and start spraying. Then I go in with a little tub of degreaser, and a hand brush, and just scrub the stuff that needs it... Then spray it down again.

If you can afford a couple cans, get Citrol. If it can cut through this nasty crude we produce around here like a hot knife through butter, it'll surely clean an engine bay no sweat.

This stuff works great. S100 Total Cycle Cleaner You may have to hit the really nasty spots with a brush or rag.
