ok need advice... anyone have experience with doing this swap from gas to diesel in these trucks? from what I have seen it is pretty straight forward tear everything from donor and stick in project truck including the gas tank,dash(gauges),and wiring in cab and out under hood...along with the fuel/water seperator...and also hydro boost brakes

is this about it? any guess on how long this might take your average wrencher with a engine hoist power tools and a tool monkey or two??

probelm is winter is setting in and I have to have one truck or other to drive... so should I moth ball the big truck for the winter and drive my old trusty and rusty 6.2 2500 for now? or is it possible to pull the switch in a weekend in a black topped driveway?

 

i suppose you could do it in a weekend if you had 20 helpers and unlimted funds. i would give it a week or two at the dead minimum. getting the motor in is the fastest thing. its the little things that kill your timetable (wiring, making drivelines, cooling system, hydroboost, etc, etc, etc) it took me about a month doing it the right way working on it every day

 

yeah I have been down similar roads before and its always the nuts/bolts wiring that killsa build.. for me I think it will be more like brake lines, steering etc because both trucks still run really (gas tank is out of big truck but thats easy). thansk alot though just reading your post and thinking about past experinces make me think should just leave the truck gas for the moment and run little truck as dd for while longer

thanx I have had alot of chevy trucks but this is only my 2nd crew cab.. other one was rusted up pretty bad and I'm no body man so it left.

thanks guys been working on the rear 4link but its been raining me out before getting much done, only problem with a truck that doesnt fit in garage (too many other cars,bikes,tools etc in way).

 

well it rained today but it was off and on enough that I got my rear axle mounted actually had to throw a jacket over the mig welder while under the truck tacking the bars in place before pulling them out to finish weld them
