I don't think it's a southern thing really, more of a trucker thing. That's just what i heard em called growin up. -

I'm probably way off, but I assumed the term came from truckers that were afraid or "chicken" about not being safe or at least legal with marker lights. -

Chicken lights are put on the front of truck bumper to help the driver get as close as possible to an object before having to make a corrective turn or maneuver. The reason there called chicken lights is because truckers were/are afraid of damaging the nose of there rigs.

Well I didn't know that Buckshot, thanks for that input. Guess it kinda goes along with the poles with lights people put on the front bumper, cuz I always heard them called
"rookie sticks" -

this is my alabama chicken farmer truck. adding 10 amber lights to the front bumber this week then about 6 down each side of my rocker panel

Yup! The sticks on the bumper.

I had an ole 1952 Willy's panel that I drove when I was 16. My Pops drove truck back then and he had an ole pair of "chicken sticks" he gave me, so I put them on my ole Willy's. It turned out pretty sweet! I have a pic somewhere I try to find and post it up! -

these are the tinted R.E.C.O.N running lights. Im gonna tint (paint) the headlights and tailights sometime next week, when i finish shaving my tailgate handle
