Default Changing Differential Fluid

Hello,

I want to change my front and rear diffs to Amsoil. I haven't ever done it myself before; but I called a shop and they wanted $200 for front and rear. ($20/quart plus their labor)

He said they have a machine to suck out the old oil so I won't have any leaks. But, won't that potentially leave debris inside the diffs?

What is involved, what do I need and how hard is it, how long will it take me? And most importantly, can I mess it up?

I know I can get the Amsoil alot cheaper directly myself.

Thanks -

Tell them they are on crack. Buy the oil, remove your drain plugs and fill bolt, fill back up to just below the fill bolt level and your done. -

Our Dodges don't have drain plugs, unless you have an aftermarket cover.
It really isn't hard. Chad had a write up about it on here. I'll see if I can find it for you. -

Your instructions may not work for me. What if I only have a 6 foot 27 year old no-good son in law and not a 4 foot 4 year old to crawl under my truck? -

I am getting conflicting info on whether or not I will need a new gasket or the use of gasket goop.

Are my gaskets for my front and rear diffs re-usable?

Thanks -

He has a third gen with AAM diffs - they come with gaskets and yes, I believe they are reusable. -

When I was younger, I did things myself to my vehicles... now though, I am a little more apprehensive about trying things.

I think I'll get in touch with Heath to order the 75-90 lube oil and give it a go. Whats the worst that can happen, I end up with a slippery driveway? -
