Default Diesel Mechanic

im a junior in highschool and im thinking of goin to school for diesel mechanic when i graduate. Now the question i have for you diesel mechanics is...do u guys like (love) your job? Do you like getting up everyday to wrench on someone elses truck? cuz my grandpa is a mechanic ( non-diesel) and he dont even like workin on his own car anymore...i dont want that to happen to me. i wanna open a diesel performance shop someday..so i dont want it to get old after awhile.
Thanks!!

i am going into the same carrer i just got a scolar ship from the union and have been acceped into school.. they pay for everything... i am working on pipeline now and have for a little over a year now... me and the master mechanic work together alot on and off job.. and he buys new trucks bc he says he dont wanna work on his stuff... other than performance.. hes abot 50 and been doing it since highschool... and he hides his mechanics rig when he gets home bc everybody whants him to fix their stuff.... so idk.... i think ill like it but money does talk alot expesualliy with the economy...... and im getting a heck of a deal too.. , but ive had the chances to be a welder or a operator for the pipeline and i would pick a mechanic almost any day... rainy days suck

I'm 47 and have been turning wrenches for the last 35 of them, 20 years as a self-employed truck and heavy equipment mechanic. It is hard work and will definately make you feel a lot older than you really are. I have been tired of wrenching for some time, but have never been able to find another career that I can make good money at. If you have your heart set on wrenching, I say go for it!
