My kid bought me a new torch outfit for Christmas and I just got around to hookin it all up and it sucks. The cutting head has hairline cracks in the brazing where the tubes meet the tip and angle down so the gas doesn't blend right. Store won't take it back because we don't have the receipt anymore. So I want to keep the hose and regulators but buy a real Victor head and handle to go on them. The issue is that I can't find any specs to show which Victor models will fit these hoses.
What I have is a Hobart "Victor Style" handle number 142T and cutting attachment model number 142C. So how can I go about findin which Victors will fit. I know I can go to the local gas shop and they can set me right up but I feel to guilty to do that cause I can't afford to buy from them. |

My old torches had a bigger hose on them I think. Seems like it anyway but it's been a while since mother nature hauled all that stuff off to the land of Oz so I may be wrong.

how i am taking what im reading on a bunch of different sites... any "victor style" kit is compatible with victor torches. and i dont think there is a difference in hose sizes either i could be wrong though. but i think they are 1/4" ID hoses... i donno if that really helps you out or not

Still stumped here if anybody has any ideas. Lookin through some Victor dealer sites it states what models they are compatible with so they must not all be the same size.
Wonder if i could get adapters that would let me use a heavier duty handle with the hoses I have. |

I could be wrong here, but i belive the hoses are pretty much a uniform size these days. the hose i.d. is about 1/4, while the fitting are 3/8 O2, and 3/8 fuel.

Hmmmm... weird. Well I am going to my shop tonight I can put my caiplers on my torch fittings and see what they are for ya. Otherwise I get the Victor journyman kits. Nice set-up they are.

Hey Bubba, I put the calipers on my victor torch and the outside of the threads measured 9/16", so if that cheap torch you got measures that, you should be in business

Any brand will work as long as the thread pitch on the torch 'handle' is the same as your hose: The Radnor set sold through AirGas is a Victor with a different name on it, fwiw... If you have the standard 'B' fittings the thread pitch is 9/16 x 18. If you have the wee lil 'A' fittings the thread pitch is 3/8 x 24. RH thread for oxygen, LH thread for acetylene. If you have barb fittings...change them out. Many of the small torch sets (hobby, plumber, etc) have the 'A' fittings. Some offshore torches don't use the USA standard thread pitches and come with metric fittings among other strange local varieties. There are adapters for most everything at your friendly local welding store, so if you find something you like and it doesn't fit your hose, have no fear. *I think your torch has them already, but whatever way you decide to go make sure you have the blowback checks on your torch between it and each hose...just in case...cheap insurance to prevent a very bad thing. Depending on the size of the tanks you have and the tips you want to run, some will run better than others, but they all will fit the hoses. |

there are two different size hoses 1/4 and 3/16 i think but the fittings are the same size

the only thing that would be different is the torch body sizes matching different cutting heads on the 2 piece torches, other then that it will have the standard size line hookups. I used to like Harris then one day I got a burr up my bum cause my torch started acting up and bought a new 24" 70º angled head Victor torch and I have switched all my torches to Victor now, 2 6' ones and 3 4' ones and I am happy as are my helpers. The Victor Propane tips seem to hold up better then Harris Propane tips
