doubt that ever
7.3 couldnt keep up with the power of other company's diesels and it couldnt meet the emmision laws If they ever run a 7.3 sized engine again it will not be anything like the 7.3 we know now. - |

Isn't Navistar buying CAT's over the road engine division??? After ford falls on it's face with this engine and they go crawling back to navistar it is conceivable that you could find a yellow engine under the hood .. or at least a yellow engine painted like a navistar. -

Dunno if Navistar did or if its being bought or not, but I was talkin to the CAT rep at work 2day and he said he got a 9 page book on how the OTR engine program isn't done yet. According to him, its just on hold and that the engine is ONLY goin to be offered in International trucks. More food for thought....

Well I've ALWAYS been a Ford man and the only reason I bought a Dodge is because of the Cummins. I just don't understand why the other two of the big three don't build inline six turbo diesels? It just doesn't make good business sense not to. Now if Ford would work on the RUMORS that have been goin on for ten years and put a Cat under the hood or an inline six turbo diesel I think they'd damn near monopolize the market and have 3/4 ton and up sales go through the roof. I doubt there's too many people that would disagree with me on this. I know I'd get a second job to buy one if they did that. -

Who says the Ford motor will fall on it's face.....only time will tell, but they have had a lot of time to get it right. I think it will be interesting to say the least. I think they have too much at stake to screw up.
What do you feel is so special about an I-6 over a V-8? - |

Well let's just look at this. Have you EVER seen or heard of a Powerstroke or Duramax or old 6.2 or 6.5 getting anywhere near the mileage before having to be rebuilt. The longevity of these motors is just incredible. I think it has a lot to do with eveyrthing going straight up and down instead of the "v" configuration. Look at even a gas motor for example. The old Ford 300 inline six. You could beat the hell out of those motors and they run forever and are torquey as hell. Jeep too, they're 4.0L inline six, another awesome example.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- With the exception of the old Cat 3208 motors look at OTR trucks that run hundreds of thousands and some a million miles plus. ALL inline six motors and a vast majority of construction equipment as well. - Last edited by AF1CUMMINS; 09-25-2008 at 09:45 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

The worst part about navistar engines in ford trucks is the ford electronics. The same engines with navistar electronics run without trouble. Ford is also notorious for being hard for suppliers to work with. My buddy has several 2002 F350 rolling chassis' that a local company was using to develop a factory air ride system for ford. Needless to say ford's demands were such that the company dropped the project. Could you imagine if they had a factory air ride system that would fix the hay wagon suspension they currently use??? Its basically the same thing that happened with the 6.0 and the 6.4 ... ford demanded engines before navistar was ready to give them engines. -

IMO Ford has always had the better looking better built trucks. One of our company Chevy's only has 130K on it, maybe 5 years old and already has door and trim pieces falling off. Mostly highway miles too.....
I also don't expect a truck to ride like a caddy....if I wanted a caddy, I'd buy one. My truck doesn't ride all that bad, and neither does my dad's F-350 long bed for that matter. They ride really great when loaded. Put 1k in the bed of my truck and they ride like a dream. - |
