Default 88 F-250 4x4 Turbocharged w/ newer motor

88 Ford F-250 Turbo INI Diesel 4x4
A buddy of mine's in a pinch and I'm about to pick up his truck. I feel like I'm getting a steal of deal other than fuel prices these days, but you all speak your minds about how I did. At any rate, he's done a frame off restoration on this rig. New bushings, front ends been all rebuilt, and he put a brand new motor in that has less than 15K on it. New heavy duty clutch put in at the same time as the motor as well as an after market turbo kit. Truck is supposed to be pushing around 280-300 HP and close to 500ft/lbs torque. Probably one of the cleaner old trucks I've seen around. At any rate, I'm grabbing it for $3k. He has about $12K into it over the years. I will be the 3rd owner. Chassis has about 200k on it but truck has been gone through.
The guy I'm buying from is ASE certified diesel mechanic for the last 20 or so years so I know it has been put together/taken care of right. He tells me that if the economy weren't so messed up, the truck ought to be worth $7k. Thanks in advance and awesome site you guys have put together here. Also, thanks for reading and any thoughts.

I think you got an OK deal... Nothing special... I don't think its worth much more than what you paid in great condition in a fair market. It's 23 years old... 3 years ago when diesel cost 1.50 less than it does now, I looked at an 88 with 160k with a turbo for 3500 bucks...

Anyways, Hope it treats you well, stick around, this is a great place.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. I def plan on sticking around. Honestly, the truck probably has less miles on it than mentioned, but having a basically new motor has got to add value over a truck with a stock motor with close to 200k miles? Also nice rhino liner, upgraded injectors to go with the turbo, 4" exhaust that turns out in front of rear tire. New heavy duty clutch that cost like $700 just for the clutch. Nice new tires plus an extra set of wheels. Also has a fifth wheel type setup that folds flat in the bed. I feel like I'm buyng a lot nicer ride than most all that you would see. IDK. Either way, I'm happy and will post pics once I take possession. Does the fact that it has always been a california vehicle help my cause? Hope i did better than y'all are suggesting but i really think i did pretty good regardless. One of these days, I would love to put a flatbed on it and lift it to the sky. Take care and thanks for the thoughts.

Long as you're happy with it, It shouldn't matter what we say. Definitely get some pics up once you pick it up. And definitely lift it. Remember boys, Lift your trucks...Fat chicks can't jump.

I'm definitely not against lifting it so long as its done well. I would be inclined to do a straight axle swap and arched springs for about 6-8" and probably run some 35-36" tires. Nothing too wild, just big enough...and I'm married so no need to worry about the
fat chicks...at least for now.

BTW I'm about to pick it up this evening so I'm pretty excited.
