Hello, I'm new to this site and i'm really struggling with what to do to replace my current pickup truck. I'm 30 yrs old and I bought my first diesel truck ever about 6yrs ago. We own a large construction company and I use my truck for plowing, towing and pounding the miles on it. I've been a loyal GM guy all my life and I have had no reason to switch possibly untill now. I'm currently driving a 03 Duramax ext cab 4x4 Chevy with 134,00 miles on it. I've had really good luck with the truck minus injectors that I just installed a week ago that where luckly covered under warranty. I've joined the Cummins and Duramax forums and I'm really looking for a diesel forum that isn't bias towards one brand in particuliar. For the 1st time ever I'm seriously considering giving a Dodge and the Cummins a try due to the new Urea injection that will be on the next gen Duramax. I'm not at all a Dodge fan and have had great luck with GM trucks all my life but this Urea injection garbage scares the crap outta me. I've asked around on both the Cummins and Duramax forums about fuel mileage, reliability and so on but there are so many opinions that I'm hoping that I'll get some realistic info on this forum. I realize if I do end up with a Dodge that I'll be driving a 6.7 Cummins. There is no way in Hell I'm going to be the 1st sucker to try out this urea injection garbage on the new duramax trucks. So the million dollar question. Why should I stick with GM?? Or give the Dodge and Cummins a try?? I'm not at all into serious mods or any of that BS! The only serious mod I could see is a better air filter/cold air intake and that would be about it. with both motors pushing 400hp I'm very content with that kind of power and torque. Please, let me hear some feed back from both sides of the isle.

The cummins is gonna be running UREA too in 2010 i believe, in all honesty your truck you have now isnt anywhere near needing replaced unless your having issues with the rest of the truck but the power train should be good to, and at 134k its just getting settled in for the long haul...
Unless your dead set on a new truck... |

JMO............you only have 134k on yer truck now and you love the truck, it has lasted you 6 years so far, change the oil and run it another 6 years and 134k then decide
2 reasons to own a diesel 1- logngivity....they last and last and last 2 all that power for towing and hauling one thin that kills me is when peeps pay 6-8k for the diesel option then trade it off when its barley broke in |

If you like the truck you have now, why get rid of it. It only has 134000. All trucks have problems or are gunna have them.

I am a die hard gasser chevy fan for one reason they are easy to find parts for. When i look at the diesels like Duramax and cant find the oil filter it was a easy choice to pick dodge and the cummins.Sounds like you do your own maintnance, the easy of maintaining an in line six cylinder is why i choose cummins.

All diesel manfacturers are suffering from new smog requirements in mileage deparment no matter how they do it (urea or not)so dont let that alone sway you.The cummins is the most heavy-duty commercial-like power but IMO that is where any advantage ends. Trans no comparison allison long track record compared to ram 6 speed (most say its very nice)is very new no real world testing and was quickly rushed to production to compete with allison. And the rest of the truck isnt close in fit and finnish, and ford is lower still.Stick with GM if you stray away you might be very sorry as I was for going TOYota, big mistake!!!

Well one thing I should have mentioned is my wife's pregnant and I'm looking to upgrade to a crew cab for the extra room too! I'm very close to putting a deal together on a 09 SLT crew cab if things fall into place like i'm hoping. We will see next week.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- No doubt the fact that the inline 6 of the Cummins puts out almost the same torque and HP as the V-8 diesels from Ford and GM is very impressive in my opinion. Last edited by considering a cummins; 11-14-2009 at 06:21 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

IMHO, I'd wait till the 2010 models came out (new body style). But if your getting a good deal on an 09, go for it. |

The very 1st 6.7 is 2010 emissions compliant when it was introduced, Dodge didn't change anything on the P/U's to meet the new emissions requirements.

Trucks are trucks, they're all the same regardless of what logo is on the grill. Get the one you like better, don't let the myths and rumors about quality of any brand sway you in either direction.
I won't be driving any of my trucks that many miles, I'll keep them in the company but I get sick of looking at the same dash after a couple years. 43,000 on my Chevy right now and I'm already sick of it

Hows about getting a older model (06-early07) 5.9 with low miles and is really clean. Dont have to worry about all the emissions bs and probably save a few bucks
