winch problems
ok so i went to use my winch today on my truck just messing around and its a no go. checked it over and took it off to clean it up. all connections are good and it had power going to it. do you guys with winches ever clean the motors on them up or anything? i got the winch with the truck and never used it until now and i can clearly tell he didnt take care of it at all im just hoping its not shot. So my main question is what should i be looking for to make sure its ok and what to do to clean that motor on it cause its got some stuff in it?
Thanks for any answers and help

use contact cleaner to clean inside the motor, it'll dry quickly and leave no residue...
there are a few places in tallahasse that can rebuild the motor if you need it rebuilt. there is actually a place here in thomasville that i would recomend if it does need rebuilding
but the contact cleaner can be purchased from autozone or advance, any major chain store and is made by CRC and is in a red and white can IIRC.

gi john may be correct- if your wiring has surface corrosion, it can prevent the motor from running since it is a high current demanding device.
Just take your time and give the winch a good clean and lube job. A dab of anti-seize on housing bolts will make future maintenance a lot easier.
