Lightbulb Clean Up On Isle "D"...

Ok, I need some advice for this one...
the '02 LB7 3500 I am getting ready to buy has a 5spd Allison,
most of you have seen the pics of the loads I will be hauling with it,
so here it is, what would be the best way to get the most durability out of the tranny without braking the bank???

Full upgrade or just a converter, etc...

Thanks in advance...

PS That Dealer that had the LLY sold the thing before I had the chance to secure the loan! I guess it does pay to have the money in hand when you go to buy!!!

I would say if your just towing with it just a TC and you should be fine if the Allisons are as good as everybody says

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but I do haul pretty heavy and I want to make sure the tranny does not come out going up a hill or something, most of the trucks I have hauled with have been manual trannys so I am unsure about autos...

Can you not find another 6spd, i agree with you hauling heavy loads especially up the east coast thru the mountains the auto might not like you so much.

I would also look into a deep pan for added cooling anything to help keep it cool i would get, Heat seems to be the real killer of these autos they put behind our engines

yeah I agree with you there....
as far as finding another 6-spd, I have looked and looked and cannot find one that has not been completely ragged out! the truck I am looking at right now is an '02 dually and has ALL of the maint records, is is a two owner but the second owner is the son of the first owner and all they ever hauled with it is a pretty light race car trailer...
and for the price, it is just right...
not to mention, for my site I really do need an auto for testing, reviews, DIY's , etc...

Honestly, I think a TC and a Transgo kit for the 5spd would be fine for towing anything. We have alot of hotshot drivers running the 5spd and 6 spd allis with a transgo kit. They pull loads over 35k 90% of the time out here.. and we have some wicked hills.. So far I havent heard any complaints except from the dodge guys. I think a good maghytec pan and a larger Trans cooler and transgo will be just fine for what you want. It should also be quite a bit cheaper than converting to a manual trans.

The Ally is damn near bullet proof. The normal guy towing all the way up to and beyond max capacity very rarely has a problem, it's more of the 'hotrodders' that seem to smoke them because of the constant abuse. If you are truely worried about it, add a Mike L tranny cooler and a larger pan to keep it cool and smooth.

I tow near, at, or over max cap all the time with mine without any problems. My buddy in Sagine tows near max cap. about 90% of his driving without any problems and his is an '03 with well over 100k on his. My 4 Allys I have at work, 3 have over 200k on them, one is at 90k, no problems. There are tons of hotshoters that use them, like I said, most of the problems come from abuse and hotrod hammering.

Don't listen to the CumminGs guys, they don't know anything about our trucks. They just know 'hear say' and 'I have a buddy that knows a guy' garbage.
