Default Jeep Liberty 2006 CRD Engine Startup Issues

Hello,
I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD (Diesel)

I'm having Engine startup issues. When I turn the key the engine just cranks & cranks
and never starts.

Sometimes I can wait a day or two & I can get it started and once I get it started
the Jeep runs good. I had two times were the engine just quick going down the highway.

I was wondering what this could be & what you guys recommend me checking?

I have changed the fuel filter but no luck

I appreciate the feedback

Have you checked on Lostjeeps.com or on the Jeep liberty crd Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/groups/libertydiesels/

Have you tried priming the fuel filter head when it is just cranking?

Do you have the upgraded fuel filter head?

You can switch fuel filter assemblies with a Dodge for a top load filter. I do not much care for the Jeep FFM, but I have not changed mine yet.

How many miles and when was the last time you had your timing belt changed?

The lift pump upgrade is a must do as these Jeeps get older and already would have saved a lot of people some grief.

Sasquatch motors - https://shop.sasquatchparts.com/ - has a wiring harness extension to run to the lift pump. He also has a EGR delete pipe.

Do you have the Green Diesel engineering Eco tune? That is also a must have for extended life on these Jeeps

ID Parts is an excellent source for quality parts for these Jeeps as well.

Engine & Transmission, IDParts.com

Do you have any codes?

How did you get the Jeep going again when it quit while on the road?

Similar issue here. I have a 2006 CRD with 150K on it. Had a few minor issues at first but solid overall and well maintained. Went to start one day and cranks but no start. Pulled code P2294 FPS. Cleaned connectors, purged fuel filter assembly etc to no avail. Read some posts about the ASD relay and sure enough I pulled the relay and swapped it with the blower motor relay and she cranked right up. Blower still works so I am guessing that the mere act of pulling and replacing the relays was enough to clean the contacts. Have on my to-do list now to pull all fuses/relays and do a thorough contact cleaning.

When mine did that I was b;owing a fuse. The ASD - Auto Shutdown fuse.

Turned out to be a chafed wire by the alternator
