It's Time For Cummins To Make Diesel History... AgainFor the '89-model year, Chrysler teamed up with Cummins to offer a heavy-duty diesel engine in its aging fullsize pickup. The customer response was overwhelming, and Dodge outsold its projected volume of diesel trucks by 167 percent. The reasons the Cummins-powered pickups were a success are obvious to us now, but back then it seemed like a radical (and expensive) proposition. I bring up this diesel history lesson, because Cummins has a 5.0L V-8 diesel engine it's been developing for nearly 10 years. That engine needs a home, and our industry is ripe for a new diesel powered-product.
