Government can ban performance??
Stopped by the magazine rack at the exchange today and it seemed like every one that was performance related had something on the cover about the gov is trying to ban performance parts, modified cars and trucks, bigger tires, project cars ect... Haven't had much time or ability (on the road) to look in to it, anyone else heard anything about this?

There is nothing to ban. If a company wants to make a performance product all they have to do is demonstrate to the EPA (and CARB if they want to sell in CA) that their product doesn't produce emissions outside of legal limits or engine longevity. This is an expensive process, but at the same time it guarantees quality products that don't just dump in fuel for more power and that only companies serious about their product will make the effort. All the hacks and scammers will simply slap an "off road use only" label on their product.
Manufacturers can't ban them through warranty denial because the Magnuson Moss act won't allow it.
Just like how recently Congress basically told Apple to GTFO STFU,and made it LEGAL to mod/jailbreak YOUR phone. They had been trying to make it illegal and whatnot.
If you used software to overclock your computer's CPU and fried it, could you honestly and morally expect the computer maker to fix your mistake?
