Default What do I do now?

Hi all, I hope somebody has some insight into what to do from here.
I am supposed to purchase a Dodge diesel truck this Saturday in Pennsylvania. The current owner is temporarily living in West Virginia, but the truck is titled in New York. The Illinois DMV will not issue a trip permit for a vehicle coming into Illinois only going out. The Pennsylvania DMV will not issue because vehicle is not registered in Penn or even a resident.
The owner can't get back to New York where it is titled. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

know anyone with a trailer? u-haul tow dolly?

kind of a weird situation your in there bud.. sure the deal is on the up and up?

best bet would be to get the title transferred to you first, then go get a temp/transport tag for it another day and bring it back.

er, yeah.. if you get an illinois temp tag for it you should be able to drive it back on that.

You may not want to do this but, I did and it worked.

I bought a truck in Las Vegas and drove it home to Alabama with the following documents and no tag.

Title, Bill Of Sale, Proof of Insurance. Called my ins company, added the truck and they faxed me proof.

Was stopped twice on the way home. Oklahoma, 15 minute stop, Trooper said "have a nice day". Mississippi, Trooper took my paperwork, 10 minutes later says "Well, it aint stolen,........ nice truck".

Make sure that you verify that the VIN # matches the title.

Just a suggestion since you asked.

When you do your bill of sale, or reciept put the purchase date on the paper on the bottom in giant black numbers (2" should do) with a fat *** magic marker. Hang the bill of sale in the back window behind the driver, look at it from behind and make sure you can clearly see and read it.

As hard as it will be, obey all traffic signs and the speed limit (<---READ THAT TWICE).

This should keep ya from being pulled over.

Technically you could be sited for driving an unregisted vehicle.

Friends and I have done the bill of sale thing, but only locally.. once it was written out on a 12pack box

never got pulled over, moved at night, and the bill of sale in the back window looked close enuff to a temp tag that we never got messed with. I wouldn't recommend it for a long trip tho..

Id put insurance on it and drive it. The chances of a cop following you any length of time to notice there is no tag is slim to none. Im sure most of them will be understanding as long as you have a bill of sale and proof of insurance

he has to cross ohio, nuff said!

driving through will get u busted.. turnpike? they scan all incomming plates at both ends to check validity/stolen/warrants so thats out, bypass that and a statie will most likely get you if not a sherrif of podunk town cop. ask any trucker bout ohio...
