Great wealth of knowledge there Mr.Miyage much i knew, some i didnt. I love when i learn a few things here and there. Although I like many do know the cummins engines are supplied assembled by cummins, etc...

International, Navistar are long tried and tested companies. So is Cummins, Semi's, marine applications, Generators, Shoot even Trains. Not competing, Just admiring.

Anywho this is the kind of thread i was wanting to turn to, good ol facts.

I love them all. They are all good in their own ways and people choose the ones they like the most.

1. Cummins I am a big fan of the Inline 6

2. Powerstroke 7.3 Big cubes and lovely sound. Makes great torque down low.

3. Duramax Good Reliable motor.

Alright heres why I chose them. Cummins is like stated Cast Iron Head and Block and a very stout bottom end. So you can put more power to them without worry.

Powerstroke 7.3 big Cubes great sound Cast Iron Block and Heads. Pretty stout bottom end for the most part and they last forever. Only weak links is the Rods and the Injection System if you want to make good power.

Duramax Well Cast Iron Block Aluminum heads. Then you want to start putting the power down on it. You need to Replace the rods. Then anymore power you need to Modify or replace the Pistons. So this is why I am going to say it's 3RD. The Allison is not as strong as many people think it is. For example Buck Spruill's truck 40 Transmissions. Then he runs a Dodge tranny should tell you something there.

These are my picks I love the 8.3 cummins I want to put one in a bigger truck along with a C7 Cat in a truck like my bosses just big burly engines.

Default Cummins

I know from experience and from just pure facts that the Cummins Engines are by FAR the best engine out of all 3 Cummins/Powerstroke/Duramax. First off the pure reliability and power of the cummins is just amazing. my father and i have been driving dodge cummins trucks for about 12 years. and have had trucks with over 400,000 and seen them with over a million miles without any problems. we have also had multiple motor homes, rvs, box trucks. you name it. we dont buy anything heavy duty without a cummins in it because we also have friends who have powerstroke/duramax and they seem to always have problems and just not be as powerfull/reliable as the cummins. and a good way to get some easy proof of why cummins is the best is to just look at things that need absolutly reliability and power such as big RVs. Big Rigs. the good ones all use cummins. you will never see a duramax or a powerstroke in a big rig let alone EVER see a silly v8 diesel in anything other than ford or chevy pickups. so if anyone is new to the pickup world. trust me buy a dodge cummins. you will thank me later when you friends are putting thousands into there fords or chevys for repairs nd you still on the road without a hiccup. i will never in my life not have a cummins. my daily driver right now is a 2001 dodge 24 valve with 298,000 miles and no signs of quitting anytime soon. only parts ive had to replaced are a $20 thermostat and a $60 throttle position sensor both only took about 5 mins to replace. no big deal.

gotta say i love my first gen 12 valve cummins, i passed up some good deals on powerstrokes and waited it out for a 12 valve. they are rock solid dependable and easy/cheap to mod and work on as well. powerstroke and d-max may win in an unloaded drag race. but drag racin is not why you buy a diesel truck. wanna drag race build a drag car. wanna haul big tractors, cattle/horse trailers, or tractor pull, get a cummins.plus they just sound better just my opinion

This thread sounds awfully biased. They are all great for what they where designed for. Each one has trucks with a million miles and they all have there lemons. What it really comes down to is which truck package has what you want/need and what you are comfortable with. Not weather the label says "light heavy duty" or otherwise.

personally in a pickup truck I choose the Duramax, love the fast reving, quick power response and ease of tuning. The Cummins puts up a hell of a fight, and the Powerstroke seems to need the most work to make reliable power. Reliability in stock form can arguably be a tie. In tow, mpgs, acceleration, etc, it seems most reviews come out as: Duramax, Powerstroke then Cummins. But when tuned it is anyone's game.

Seriously....like a "light heavyweight" weight class in boxing or MMA...it's a widely used classification phrase.

Also, Cummins supplies their engines to Dodge as assembled. There is a "Dodge version" variant but for the most part it is identical to the other B's and Dodge works around Cummins' design.

FoMoCo is given a Navistar engine that is tweaked to operate in FoMoCo's design parameters---for example the Navistar version of the VT365 does not spin up to 4400rpm like the 6.0L does, and there are many design changes to compensate for this. Perhaps the emissions labels are changed for these more chassis specific designs. Possibly the same for the Isuzu Duramax 6.6L as well.

International historically only offers its engines in their own platforms. With exception to the Ford light truck contract, this has always been the case. Caterpillar and Cummins are engine manufacturers, so it is in their best interests to offer their product line in as many OEM chassis as possible.

International has a product line that competes directly with the Ford F650-F750 line, and offers a wide variety of their own powerplants in it. They have no reason to offer their engines to the F650-F750 line. This fact has lead to some saying "it's because they aren't good enough engines" when this isn't the truth. Just more rumor/legends.

At least you didn't spell Cummins with a G. j/k

I'm not sure what he drives...he's hard to understand, goes off on rambling tangents about bagpipes, hummus, and William Wallace a lot. I remember seeing him on TV a few years ago at his home in Oregon and he had a Ford pickup, but I think it was a F-150....

And to keep in the spirit of the thread, my order:

1. 12v mechanical Cummins 6BTA
2. 5.9L Cummins CR
3. 7.3IDI Turbo
4. Duramax 6.6L
5. TIE 7.3L Powerstroke 99-03 aftercooled and 24v Cummins ISB
6. 7.3IDI NA
7. 6.4L Powerstroke
8. 6.7L Cummins CR
9. cow **** in a bag
10. various Yugos
11-99. polka
100. 6.0L Powerstroke

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Cool...are they the 6.6L V8 or the 7.8L I6?

Some of my customers have the 7.8L I6 in their GMC 7500 COE line trucks.
Glad to see cow **** in a bag made the top ten!

Ive owned all 3

2008 Ford 2010 Cummins and 2013 Duramax

I liked all for certain things but overall I like the Duramax the best and it is by far the best fuel economy of the 3. All 3 have had chips andall 3 have done DPF deletes.

None had any major warranty issues. Since chevy changed under carriage in truck in 2011 like it best

I personally love ford. Better trans, interior, better frame, better front end, better paint, ect. But if I had the money I wouldnt hesitate to drop a 5.9 in it
