Default Cummins OR Duramax??

I think I'm getting close to upgrading the ol 94 Dodge in for something newer. Love the truck, but need more space. 304,000 miles and still runs great.
Still trying to decide which way to go. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. Anyone have an opinion on which will most likely get me the most for my money? (including future repairs) I don't tow much so the best performance isn't a big factor. I want comfort, room, fuel economy, and one that will stay out of the shop
Always liked the longevity of the cummins, but like the looks of the chevy.
Looking at an 05-07.
Input appreciated.

cummins, i just don't like a ifs front end in a 3/4 ton truck. and for a dodge i would try to get a 04.5-06 5.9 they really had some performance and depending on mods and how they are driven the can get between 17-21 mpg. -

Well I went from a 96 Dodge to an 05 Chevy. The one thing that lead me here was I need a CC and I felt that the Dodge Q/C was too small yet the Mega was too big for what I needed. Having been around GM for the last 12 years or so and being comfortable fixing them also weighed heavily. I've had mine for about 3 months now and am very happy with it. The more I read about the D'Max the more comfortable I get with my decision.

The Cummins is easier to work on and has an awesome track record. I think it also slightly edges out the D'Max for fuel mileage.

Buy what you like. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big 3. -

I have had 3 Dmax trucks that I have never had a single issue with. None of them have been super modified for power but they have all been lifted with varying power adders and exhaust.

If and when I buy my new truck it will be a Mega cab Cummins, not because I do not like my Dmax but because I love the look of the Mega cabs when lifted. I could really care less who makes the truck, I go for looks, I really have no need to have a diesel, the only thing I ever pull is my boat and that is about 1 time a year if that. -

Same here, I dont think you can go wrong with either choice. The Cummins has an awesome track record. But I will tell you, unless you are doing serious offroading or plan on competing in pulls with the truck, there IS NO NEED FOR A SOLID FRONT AXLE. I just cant stress that enough. Why would anyone deny themselves of that plush ride from an IFS? It just dont make sense. Chevy interior is SO MUCH more comfortable IMO and the ride cant be denied as the BEST of the big 3...

As for room, my wife and I have 3 sons, and we take cross country trips alot in my CC DMAX. Now if the general ever makes a mega cab styled truck, I will buy it. I love the mega cab look, but dodges interior and ride is just not good enough for me as I spend ALOT of time in my truck.

Like Johnny said.. buy what you like bud. go drive each truck you like, feel how the seats are, feel the front end ride over bumps.. -

I chose a Dmax thats all I can say and it has been a great truck took it to the shop once. The boost sensor went out that didn't leave me on the side on the road, but I could only make 15 lb of boost. There is two things I like more about Dodges then the Dmax. The sound of it straight piped and they can fit 35s better. -

i love my d-max but NOTHING beats the longevity of the cummins motor, from personal experience the cummins gets better fuel mileage but this also varies in what d-max motor you have. the lb7 tends to get greater fuel mileage then the lly comparing my truck to others this was also a stock experiment. im also not a big fan of ifs either but i wouldnt trade my truck for the world. the only problem i have had with mine was the starter but havent had any problems since... -

I just got my hands on a 2008 Dodge 2500 4x4 mega cab STX trim. The new 6.7l CTD is very nice, it is quit, no rattling, and the power is there when you need it. I would agree that the intereior is not a nice as the bowtie counterpart, but still very equiped. The backseat in the megacab is amazing. I have not had one person ride in the back and not make a comment on how roomy and comfortable it is. The dodge has a nice six speed trany with the ability to control it with a selector switch similar to the GM. The new dodge also comes equipped with an engine brake feature which is also very nice option to have. I think what is comes down to is having to decide between a comfortable daily driver d-max or a reliable workhorse cummins. I think you would be happy with both. -

Really depends what you want I think. The DAMX will give you a car like ride but the Cummins is very dependable and is designed to work hard. The harder you push it the better it gets. Personally, cummins 2004.5 would be my limit to steer away from the enviro junk on board. -

well I guess its too late for me to say get a CC/SB Dmax.

Suprisingly a stronger motor in some ways over the cummins. But Im talkinghigh performance applications.

For a good strong running daily driver you would have come out ahead no matter which one you bought. -
