I have been a ford guy, but loved the cummins my whole life. I drive a D-Max, if your not going to be doing alot of pulling I would go with a D-Max no question. I have alot of friends with common rail cummins, and im really not impressed. I have seen 6 05-06 engines get warrantied in the last 7 months or so.... Some chipped some not. Nothing else done to any of them (excluding gauges, intake and exhaust). For dependability id go with a d-max. If you were to pull alot, cummins all the way. chev's are far far far more comfortable no double, quiteter in every aspect, and ride much better.

TTS trannies just flat out suck.

If you use Mike L and Suncoast parts you will have a stout trans.

But It is true that the Dodge autos have an advantage in drag racng due to their light weight of the internals. The ally is built to heavy for high horsepower drag trucks. It kind of internally destructs itself because it is overbuilt.

However with the help of Mike L. we will have the ultimate ally. I think he only has one more trick up his sleeve for a little while.

[QUOTE=liftitlly;221589]. I have seen 6 05-06 engines get warrantied in the last 7 months or so.... /QUOTE]

The only time a 3rd Gen 5.9 Cummins breaks down usually, is because someone mods heavy hp w/o upgrading the internals and get the EGT 1600*+++ (or even lightly modded). Need to know when to back out of it. Even though Cummins 3rd Gen can handle up to 1500* for a very short burst, but then again all it takes is one time.......KABOOM........

In stock configuration it's rare, but can happen on Duramaxes & Cummins...........

I know T.J (Getblown5.9) gets his 2nd gen up over 1600*+ during sled pulls, Leonard (Skynyrd) has gotten his 3rd up way over 1600* and so have quite a few other 3rd gens. NO problems.

Only 1600??

I consistently ran over 2,100 degrees this year. Must be the durability of the Dmax

If I were getting one to just mildly mod ie a basic programmer and just to DD and maybe pull something like a boat or camper i'd have a hard time not getting a GMC just for the smooth ride and awesome interior. now If I was going to be pulling the 5th wheel with teh boat behind a lot then I'd get a cummins. But DD and light towing and very light dyno or sled pulling GM is hard to turn down

most 7.3s were really good, just slow.

Cant say the same for our 99, only 45,000 miles on it when we traded it for a Dmax and it had: New tranny, t-case, brakes, headgasket, turbo and the trans was on its way out again and the transfer case was broke again.

thats really odd for a 7.3 truck. I have always known them to be tanks but like you said slow and really not that good on the MPG department either but always made it from point A to point B pulling basically whatever you want
