Default Improve MPG

I have an 02 F250 7.3L and I am looking for ways to improve my gas mileage. I have 35" tires and about 150k miles. Any suggestions? p.s. I do not know the ins and outs under the hood like most of you.

I'm going to move this to the general Ford section to get some better exposure for you.

Basic stuff is to keep up on your maintenance. Replace the air and fuel filters as needed. Those 35" tires aren't helping anything. Dropping down a few sizes would help. You could switch to synthetic oil and axle lube too.

You ought to fill out your signature too. Then we know what has been done to your truck and can better suggest some other things to try like a programmer and exhaust.....

Welcome to DB.

yeah even adding fuel treatment, intake, 4inch exhaust, and a nice programmer will help you get better mpg.

also maybe slide a brick underneath the accelerator

Good idea!

I finally broke down and started using cruise control, something I've refused for years to do because it just doesn't feel like driving! But I did get better mileage, so I'll keep usin' it.

What's a Smart car?

Default Well

the best way to find a noticeable increase is to do multiple things to reach your goal. The installation of an exhaust, intake and a good chip helps a bunch. I ran consistantly 16 stock. I put a 4" straight pipe, Ford AIS intake and a DP flip chip on and ran consistantly 18-19 when I kept my foot out. I did use the Ford fuel additive too. But your not going to run 18-19 with those tires unless you run 55mph everywhere. But its possible to get 1-2mpg which in the end adds up.

I have a 2wd - I have kept stock size tires, goign to level the rear with the front to make it lower, put on a bed cover, done the zoodad and intake, 4" exhaust, and economy tune on the chip -- so far I'm getting around 20 on the hwy @ 70 OR LESS!

the biggest thing you can do is GET RID OF THOSE TIRES and slow down - keep the R's below 2500 at all times and around 2K when cruising at hwy speeds... you will see siginificant gains then
