mad New LPOP no oil pressure -won't prime Hpop

2000 f250 7.3. power chip
Truck has been amazing -initially developed a knock at 289k dropped pan and found a oiler port. Pulled piston from bottom side and found broken skirt. Replaced piston, wrist pin and rod. Had to go thru top (head gasket) darn it !!

Had cast on hand when replaced head gasket and nicked gasket. Truck ran w small water usage. Decided to replace gasket after 2 weeks and removal of cast- didn't use new studs. Drove truck approx 45 miles when I am assuming my thriftiness bit me in the ars and my bolts stretched. Full blown head gasket!

Truck sat for 7 months. Finally got around to replacing the head gasket again and new bolts. Now i have a no start issue.

No oil pressure at dummy gauge. Can prime hipop and she will start and die, so new lpop and same symptom. Prime hpop and she will start and die. Still no oil pressure, at gauge and the hpop is not refilling. I have cycled it, cranked and cranked with no luck. I dis prime the lpop before installing. She is getting fuel. Unfortunately I'm female and have no idea how to check the pressures. My diesel experience is from this trucks latest experiences and I have a dreaded 6.0 also that has required me to get diesel savvy.

Any ideas? Please please my back up truck is the early 04 6.0. Nuff said there!!!

Thanks for the welcome and the reply CMCA,

Well i happen to have another 7.3 (Green) running and so I swapped the ipr to the (White) 7.3 and i still have the same situation. The green 7.3 will run just fine with the Whites IPR so i dont beleive its the IPR. The HPOP does not drain itself either overnight. For some reason i am not getting oil pressure from the lpop as far as i can tell.
my thought was when the head gasket blew adding all that water to a pressured system, what the likely hood of something over pressuring and causing a leak to appear somewhere that is not allowing it to pressure up now?

Whats the easiest way to test my LPOP and make sure it is pumping! At least I can swap parts out for free till i find out whats up with my white girl

put a gauge in the plug on top of the HPO res. or put a sending unit there and put a gauge in the cab.

Heres a bit more info! pulled the plug in hpop, filled resevoir half full and cranked. she will rumble to life, stumble, rumble then fail. I can re crank and get some life then she dies again.

I did crank while the plug was out and the resevoir did fill and spurt some oil out. So now i am thinking my LPOP is fine.

I am stumped!!
I have duty cycled and cranked several times enough that i would assume that i have purged most of the air, or at least enough to get her to run.

my son replaced all the connectors on the fuel rail and my gut just keeps going back to he didnt get something seated well, but then i would assume she wouldnt fire at all.

if i crank and crank and crank she will spin a bit faster, seem like it is about to start maybe like a gas engine, so i quit cranking and she dies.

iwould put a pressure gauge on it just to see how much it's putting out. it might be pumping oil but it may not be enough to keep the res. filled

Beer

Ah but alas young steed. I'm a poverished damsel with no gauges.

My oil after 2nd change was clear til I got her to turn over. Now I look milky again? Maybe aerated I would assume that with 2 changes I would not be seeing milky oil still. Water level has not changed either

Ok let her charge for a bit. Did not fill up reservoir this time cranked and cranked and she started 4 times will rev then acts like starving for fuel.
I'm wondering if it's diesel in my oil. O ring bad?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Well after all said and done, it looks like I get to rebuild. I am still losing water into the oil. Cracked block, head who knows. Grrr.

Did you install the LPOP correctly? Sounds to me you installed the pump incorrectly. Your not getting LPO... Its not the IPR, CPS, IDM, PCM, Fuel Pump, Injector cups, Injector O rings or anything other then A LACK OF LPO...

Fix the first issue, then work from there.

Low pressure oil can come from the pump, pick up, pressure relief, cracked or damaged front cover, lack of oil...

If you're getting oil up into the reservoir fast enough to overflow then you have enough oil to start, maybe not run, but start. I'm wondering if you didn't get some of your old head gasket material into the oil that didn't get filtered out (or plugged your oil filter!) and got caught in your HPOP reservoir screen that is limiting flow into the HPOP. Second option is if you're oil is turning to milky sludge that will definitely plug up that screen. Seen that before when a cooler went out. Just a thought but as said above gauges would be damn handy.
