voltage regulator on the alternator went out. i'm not sure on what can happen to electrical components but it can't be good. now the regulator is almost as much as a whole new alternator.

my 01 has 2 alternators from the factory. and of course i got a/c! i guess it was an option, but idk what year that was. most all the new trucks i believe have 2 alternators...

i think my truck produces around 14.3volts at idle. might dip down a little with all the lights and flashers on...if you are producing way more than that (over 15 or 16) then i'd think the voltage regulator would be bad like someone else suggested. if its in the 14 volt range i wouldn't bother with it!
