Weirdest thing ever. I changed my fuel filter yesterday and after installing, fuel kept spraying out of the top if the cap between the cap and the gasket. I verified I installed it correctly. I have done this about 10 times before with no issues. I blew it out with air in between and I am wondering if I didn't do something then.

It seems to be building excessive pressure in there. No matter how I tighten the cap-loose or very tight, it squirts out. Anyone know of a sensor in there or something I might have done that is causing it to increase the pressure so high that it won't seal.

Please help. It is my parked in my driveway and is not driveable.

 

no i dont believe there is a sensor in there, did you mess up the gasket? the only time i had that problem i ither had it too loose or screwed the gasket up, i would have to say its ither the gasket or the cap itself

 

No. I even tried the old rubber gasket and the old cap and it still leaked? Would there be some kind of o ring inside the bowl that I may have blown off-besides the one that is on the filter itself. It has me completely stumped. Tried about 6 or 7 times and it squirts out at different places, so it is not a hole or anything in my fuel bowl. The picture called for bevel up on the rubber gasket. Unless the picture was wrong, I am installing it right.

Can anyone tell me if bevel on the rubber gasket for the cap should be up or down. The instructions say up, but I am wondering if it shouldn't be flat against the cap and beveled against the bowl surface. Also, can anyone tell me what the line going out of the driver side top of the bowl is. It has a c clip and what appears to be a small piston that moves a 1/8 or so when pushed from the inside. I read another post in which a guy said there was a screen that was clogged and he cleaned it and it stopped the cap from leaking, perhaps allowed fuel to go out that line if there was air or something in the line? I used an autozone filter, which is the first time I have done that. In the past I have used Powerstroke or Fram.

 

the bevel goes down towards the bowl and the flat side sits against the cap. that's probably why it's leaking. i believe the line on the drivers side is the return line. the piston is part of the regulator.

 

That is what I was thinking today and I thank you for confirming. The paper instructions of the autozone brand are just wrong. I am travelling, but my wife is returning it anyway for a Fram. If they can't get the instructions right, I don't want to risk the quality of the filter. The Fram is only $7 more. Thanks!

 

Yep, bevel down. I did the same . But I heard off-brand filters come with crappy gaskets. I might try something different next time besides AutoZone brand.

 

i've used autozone brand several times. just for the cheap price tho. i guess when you buy a truck that sat for 4 years, there is a lot of crap in the tank.

 

Yes, I have exchanged for a Fram. I should have caught the directions being wrong, but every other time I have went agains the directions it was me that was wrong . Thanks everying for your help and beware of those discount filters!!
