Default "Hutch mod", good idea or bad?

I was thinking about doing the "hutch mod" since I am always running on fumes because I drive very lond distances and dont want to stop any more than I have to and some times there is just no fuel stop for hundreds of miles. My worry is that the 3' of steel tubbing is to heavy and will get caught in the sloshing and cause damage to the float or pick-up assembly, I deal with very rough terrain daily. What are your thoughts?

It is not 3 feet of tubing that is used. it is fairly short pieces. The compression fittings that are used to mount them are very stable and should not ever move. I don't see any reason not to do it.

Afer I posted this I found a different link that showed short pieces being used, the other 1 I was looking at used a 36" piece of tubing to get away from the pic up.

You will want to poon the tank as well, cut off the expansion part of the tank which will allow you to fill up faster and top off quicker.

There is a piece that extends several inches into the tank from the filler neck. Cut that crap off.

Yeah I did that the other day, have a thread floating around somewhere about it. I was able to put 41,6 gallons in it just after I did it, compared to 38 just before.

If I understand it right you modify the fuel return line inside the tank so the return fuel is routed away from the fuel pick up, because the returning fuel has air in it and causes air bubbles in the tank where it merges with the fuel. Goggle it for a better explanation and pictures. Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page
