Allright guys -- just joined and doesn't seem like anyone has posted this info here, so here goes

Ford is RECALLING certain trucks that are prone to CPS failure (who woudla thunk it )

Here is some info I found from another site (Strokertech brought it to their attention) and a place to check your vin for the recall if you don't want to wait!

(the black CPS is being recalled and replaced with the gray one)

2007.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor may fail due to circuit
degradation. If the CMP Sensor should fail, the engine may stall. In the event of an engine stall, a
crash could result without warning. A new CMP Sensor with improved reliability is now available.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to inspect the CMP Sensor to verify which design level sensor is installed in the affected
vehicles, and replace all prior level sensors. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no
charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Parts to repair this condition are currently not available in sufficient quantities to service all of the
affected vehicles. Therefore, to ensure that an ample supply of parts is available, owners of affected
vehicles will be notified in separate phase mailings over several months. Phase mailing will begin the
week of December 17, 2007; prioritized by age of vehicle. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles
that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

 

Thanks, I went to the web site and put in my VIN and sure enough my truck was on there for the CPS recall. I'll have to schedule an appointment tomorrow AM. Thanks again, Sixpack

 

Its the Black one that is recalled - the gray one will be the one they replace it with

 

Why, so we can replace the gray one on the side of the road later?



Recall or not I don't trust the FoMoCo part.

I'm running the blue one from Navistar and everyone else should be, too. Of course I replaced about 55 of the POS 12K073 Ford sensors from '95.4 - '00 before finding this one about 7 years ago....

Navistar PN 1807339C92 if anyone is interested....(that is the newest PN I am aware of)

Hi, i'm from ford-trucks.com (ford truck enthusiast).

The blue 7.3 navistar CPS unit is said to be more rugged than the ford CPS, however, it is still prone to failure, as 7.3 diesel engines experience different operating conditions in a pickup truck, such as frequent heat/cool cycles that may cause some parts of the engine to degrade quicker than a larger truck.

The "new" CPS is supposed to be better than any other CPS you can currently buy.

 

i got a letter in the mail, i should take it in

 

mine goes in monday @ 1pm and I get to beat i mean drive a loaner for the afternoon

 

they give you a loaner? lucky i never got one the last time mine went in, and it was in there for more than 4 days

 

wow that sucks.. I do a lot of business with them though, that may be a contributing factor to the service I get from them

 

I stopped in saturday morning to get my oil changed and we were chit chatting about forged/pmr's and he said oh yah, your truck is under the recall -- so i said do it if ya can and they did -- didn't take any longer than a normal oil change.. hung out in the service dept chattin until the truck was ready!
