Question Auto or manual?

I'm looking to spend some money on a 99-02 SD and I was just wondering how well the 4r100 holds up? I'm having trouble deciding to go auto or manual here. On one hand I like grabbin gears and I kinda get bored not having to(driving an auto) but on the other hand, I like being able to just smash the go pedal and start haulin ***** and not have to worry about shifting(like when red lights turn green ).

I plan on doing just the basic intake, exhaust, and probably a PHP chip. I don't tow very often. Only every once in a while, usually during hay season. I'm more of a speed demon and just like to drive fast.

What year did they start putting in the powdered metal rods? I've heard 01 and 02. I know its not something that I really need to worry about with the basic mods but if I can avoid them, I'd like to, because after the truck is paid off and when I'm making more money, I'll probably do injector and turbo work.

I have a 99 Auto with a custom made (I mean I done it all, no buying premade stuff except the piping) and it holds up great. Shifts very smooth, and I absolutely love it.

Stock for stock...Manual is better. If you plan more power down the road, You can't beat a built auto.

Also, PMR's were introduced in the middle of 2001. So you will find forged rod motors and PMR motors in 2001, then its PMRs in 02 and 03.

Exactly what I would have said...

But it was more early 2001 for the PMR's...
