What should the oil pressure be at on a stock 1999 7.3 when just driving normal (without running it hard or fast.) It's an automatic 6 speed if that helps any. Mine is getting up near the to high mark here lately and it's starting to worry me.

 

Trusting the factory oil pressure gauge isn't a good idea. It is simply controlled by a pressure switch on the high pressure oil pump reservoir and the needle goes to whatever place it wants to on the gauge.

The switch closes at 7 PSI, so as long as you're above that, your gauge will read in the normal range.

Normal operation should get you 40-70 PSI while driving.

which is it? 6 speed manual, or an automatic? yeah the factory gauge is just a dummy gauge, get an acutal oil pressure gauge to find out what its running at

 

It don't matter to me all that much anymore. I put her into a ditch last night and have some other damage to worry about. Another question and I don't feel like making a new thread. This started after I wrecked last night.

When I give it throttle, the truck starts to rock, like a motor mount is broke. Would I be correct, or is there somethng else? I haven't checked the mounts yet, but I checked the driveshaft and frame and it is fine.

 

what do you mean by "rock"?? and i'd just start checking mounts and all that stuff, crossmembers etc... shitty deal on putting it in the ditch though, been there done that how'd it happen?

 

Strange mine was in the ditch too. Didnt mess anything up. Couldnt get it out had to leave it over night guy we know with an endloader got it out this morning. And some a hole stole my receiver over the night

 

might be a tran prob go get it checked out. the sooner the beter before you end up on the side of the road or with a major bill

or a torque converter sounds serious i have 2001 f250 with 238000 miles on it and never had a problem so go get it checked out

 

It was the motor mounts. I broke the bolt on one. I didn't have time to fix it myself, so I had someone do it.

Another new problem I think is from the wreck. I just redone the whole front right hub wheel assembly. Also put new brakes, rotors, and calipers all the way around. So it can't be the brakes. But when I'm going down the road and if I hit a bump, there is a rubbing noise coming from the front right end of the truck. Sounds like a tire rubbing, but I've had the front tires on a while. I just got new back ones and it started right after I put them on (which happened to be the day after the wreck so I think it is from the wreck). I checked for any signs of rubbing and there isn't any. It stops when I slow down to about 10-15mph and start moving again. I haven't drove it since it started doing that and have been driving my moms Mustang. I need to find out what the problem is, cause she wants her car back, and I want my truck back.

And for those wondering what happened. I was going down a curvy hill. The road wasn't cleaned yet from the snow. Still had 3 inches of snow on the road. I had baby butt smooth back tires. No wires showing, but SMOOTH. I went around the first curve at about 15mph. I lost it and got it straightened out. It fishtailed and the bed of the truck was drifting in the other lane. I almost had it corrected and it caught traction and shot towards a bunch of parked cars and a mailbox. So I got it away from that. I told everyone to hang on, we're going in a ditch. I cut the wheel as hard as I could and locked the brakes down to put it in the ditch backwards. The wrecker company said if I went in front first, I would have rolled it and the people in the passenger side would have been severely hurt if not killed. Worst of all, I was going to my grandmas for Christmas dinner. Here's a picture of her down in the ditch

 

Will be able to get you a oil pressure reading tomm hopefully. Installing my gauges as or rigth now.

 

Looks like cold startup I am getting 65 or so psi, and warm cruising around 50-55 psi, warm idling is around 38-42 psi.
