mad bad tranny in 2000 7.3???

my buddy has a 2000 3/4 ton 7.3 auto and well his tranny just up and quit on him as he was driving, it through p0733 and p0741, then we cleared em, then it quit a few miles down the road while he was driving we put a comp on it and it said the 1 and 2 shift solenoids were bad, the tranny fluids were black, we've put it in gear and revd it up and it wont move or anything, any ideas if its trashed or can it be fixed???

Default anything can be fixed

i have a 2001 and it did the exact same thing, i replaced the valve pack under the pan and nothing happened any different. if the fluid is black usually your clutches are gone, does it smell burnt? i would recomend a rebuild, something after market guts, suncoast, billet, ect, i put a billet in mine, shift kit, heavy duty clutches, and a heavy duty torque converter. total build was around 4500 dollars, never had a problem since.

I know Justin at Twisted Diesel builds a mean trans., he built the one for Brian "Powersmoker" Jelich's 992HP truck that was shown in Diesel Power and Diesel World Mag's. I think a strong Phase I build is around $25-2700 if I remember correctly. Empire Diesel (another good bunch of guys) up in Dubuque may have a few on thier shelves too.

I looked at Empire's sit and they sayin' $2200 for a Phase I build. I've known the guys at Twisted for a few years (I lived down the road from thier shop when I was active duty) and they do a great job and will make sure it's right. That's who Empire will send it to, so if that's the path chosen, rest assured it'll be good.

hes not wanting ta spend more than 3000 on one, but he wants alot, upgraded pumps billet shafts, modded valve body, torque converter, all for less than 3000

I'm not sure if it's exchange, build, or purchase. I know if you were local to Twisted they have a 2-3 day turnaround on a rebuild. I'm not sure how Empire works it. You'd have to call them to find out.
