Changing my tranny fluid any input on this??
I have a 99 f350 with auto tran and wanted to hear from others on what they like to do, use as in transmission fluid, and any other thing that might make the job of doing this a little more easy. Love to hear from all of you.
P.S. I have done this before just not on a diesel.
Thanks

I've read that my truck takes 17.7 quarts, but says that to only add 6.5 and run the truck and add as needed, does this sound right to anyone??. I've wanted to do my own work this times and maybe take it somewhere next time. Also sure I still use mercon right? Should I also put in a lube garud?

it is 6.5 quarts to fill up an empty transmission pan. That doesn't take into account whats in the torque converter or the rest of the trans. If you do this by yourself at your house you will only be changing what is in your pan. If you want to change all 17.7 quarts then the guys above are correct... take it to a shop where they can flush the whole thing. And as for fluid I believe a 4R100 takes Merc 5.
