Ford Powerstroke 99-03 7.3L Discussion of 99-03 7.3 Liter Ford Powerstroke Turbo Diesels

Ok, truck wasn't running for a week(replaced #1 injector and IDM) now it runs rough and blows white smoke. Any thoughts on what this might be now. I've owned it for 3 years and never had white smoke. Hucksdorf is the only place around here ... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

Default White Smoke

Ok, truck wasn't running for a week(replaced #1 injector and IDM) now it runs rough and blows white smoke. Any thoughts on what this might be now. I've owned it for 3 years and never had white smoke. Hucksdorf is the only place around here that I know of and spoke to someone who works there he said they'll sell you what you need and some stuff you don't so I'm not to keen on bringing it there. Anyone heard reviews on Hucksdorf? Would prefer to fix it myself. Thanks. -

possibly the harness under the valve covers..may have bumped it while installing the injector...it dosent take much on a worn out harness connector... -

What lead you to change these parts out? I assume your not just throwing parts at it...

You need to get a scanner on it, see what you can find. Run a cylinder cont test, a buzz test, a KOER test... You might plan on doing a compression test after that.

From your other thread...

why did you change these parts out? -

Injectors weren't getting any power and the number one injector read OL when tested with multimeter. Installed new clip on harness under rt side valve cover.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

IDM that I got didn't have numbers on it so I couldn't tell you.(Remanufactured) Is there any other way to tell? -

You really need to stop spending money on it the way you are and run some tests. Injector Buzz test, cylinder cont test and a KOER (key on engine running) test.

Do a quick search for Auto Enginuity... Buy it for about $250-$300 and then you will have to tools to check things yourself!

Dont worry about the IDM, they are all the same so long as you stay within the major build dates. OBS/ SUPERDUTYS...

OBS have 120 IDM's and the SD have 140... Truck will run the same with eather. -

could this be oil burning because the injector didn't get fully seated? -

Uncle installed injector(first time) o-rings were brand new(injector was reman) and used lube so o-rings wouldn't tear. Copper looked new as well. Did not check with a straight edge. Seems to happen mostly when I start it, but I just can't see back there when I'm driving so unsure if it happens all the time. -

Need to make sure the old copper came out with the injector, you should ALWAYS use new coppers and o-rings. Once you have the injector seated with a dead blow hammer, then tq to 10ft#'s and take a straight edge and set it over the tops of all the injectors. If there not the same, you have an issue. -

It said in manual not to use a hammer, or beat on the top of the injector. It looked like old copper was still on injector(the one we replaced) when it was pulled out. What is a dead blow hammer? -
